The Awakening Moon
night seeps heavily into cracks unseen
by day,
fills them with heaviness
with languor—
seeps its stillness
honey upon its breath
wondrous in its intensity
ponderous in its tenacity
and settles upon the cool earth
signaling the moon’s awakening,
its celebratory dance.
The carnage of day
swept aside
the gentle succor
of moonlight
bestows
its own life
upon that which day ignores—
radiance scours the earth of pain
and renews the blood of the land.
