i awoke with it

moving through my system,

a lion loose upon the Savannah

of my bronchi,

tickling its way through to cilia

meant to catch finer things;

examination

a nervous after effect

of mucosal membranes

lined up

belly to the bar.

Uninvited guests

pint glasses in hand

as I hack my way through another night.

      Well my goodness, I hope you feel better soon....and only you could make a cough sound poetic. :)

      Oh my, Audrey! So sorry you are coughing and hacking, but never have I read such a poetic description of such misery. When I was much younger seems like I had bronchitis almost every year, almost never now. Since I lecture/talk 3-4 hours a day, my nemesis now is a severe sinus infection followed by laryngitis. I do hope you are feeling better very soon.

      Rough times Audrey. I hope that damnable cough takes a vacation soon. Great poem about your situation though, I love it, it is right up my alley. Jamie

      Hope you are feeling much better now Audrey. Only a poet could have looked at cough in this light and penned this.

      Hi tireless--looks ok on my computer--the verse is narrow--but the picture and placement all look normal to me--and thank you!
