Salvador Dali Inspired Poetry: The Day I Swallowed a Bird

Updated on June 6, 2013

The saddest day of my life,

I spent on a plane,

Watching a family of birds,

Flying in heart shaped formations.

They were singing

Beautiful songs to each other

And flying free like the wind.

Suddenly turbulence hit,

And the weight of the plane.

Fell on top of my head.

At that moment I wanted to scream

Crash and Burn,

But I had feathers caught in my throat.

I accidentally swallowed

Baby bird.

It was with great regret,

That I looked into mama birds eyes

And told her what I had done.

She pecked my eyes out,

Rendering me completely blind,

You couldn’t have asked for a better ending.

To a broken hearted day.

I know it was my first attempt at surrealism, but I'll do better next time.

Up and interesting. I think the surrealism worked well this time.

Thanks. I wanted to get a point across, but I tried to do it in an indirect manner. The images are actually layers upon layers of a very bad moment in time for me, and i tried to put them all together in a story that might sound a bit funny, but sad at the same time.

Love the image and the scribe was great! I'll have to look further into surrealism, just so I don't make a fool of myself!

      Thank you for sharing!

It was a sad day for me. I was hurt, all choked up, and seeing anything that reminded me of happiness just made me want to die. Thankfully this was many years ago.
