The Day My Heart Stopped Beating...

Updated on April 21, 2012

A slow beat

That pounded in my chest

I could hear it strong

It penetrated

My skin

My hands

My veins

It was the heartbeat that was waiting for more

Needing love

Longing for the words

To make it glow

My heart waited in the shadows

For that love to come

That beat slowly pounded every day

Patiently waiting

The day came when my heartbeat found that love

The words

The joy

The love

Radiating light everwhere

In all directions

The heartbeat pounded louder in my chest

It beat to such heights

It thought it could fly

Then one day

My heartbeat found something it didn't want to find

The door slammed open

There was a chill wind in the air

The words came at my heartbeat

Disgust and hate

Something this poor heart never heard before

Never understood

My heart was pierced with a sword

Shaking violently

It became frightened

She tried hiding

But the words came stronger

More violent

More hateful

The heart grew tired

She slowed down

Stopped beating

She couldn't take it anymore

My heart died

There was no more beating

No life

She was pounded to death

My heart beat no more

Caroline, this poem tears at my heart. And "pulled in two" as well! I pray that you are writing from past experiences and not current heartbreak:( Reading these just makes me wish I could just give you a big hug! You are a blessing!! -Daniel

caroline, Your poem captures well the two extremes for a heart to stop beating: that love-at-first-sight stopping of the heart and then the devastating effects of love gone wrong. Up + UABI

      Kind regards, Stessily

Dark, but that's what it feels like when the heart breaks.

Sad! Pain all over it... the one thing you hope for.. long for.. you get it... overjoyed and then you are stabbed by it... killed by it... your soul breaks into fragments.. it dies... rendering you morose.. lifeless!!

      Sad!

      Could feel the pain..
