The Grandma I Wanna Be by Diana Pierce

All of grandmas’ efforts paid off for I tried to listen well.

My grandmas taught me many things and I want to tell.

From creative talents busting loose and the fine love of country living,

Along with caring acts of kindness and their ever gracious giving,

Patience and strength from pure determination,

From hard work and lessons for their consideration,

Grandma Rood

Yes, on their watch was kept a strict command;

They knew what needed done to make me understand,

From a unruly start to a stubborn lack of self esteem,

I made it through my childhood fine with them on my team.

As I reach the final chapters in my life my wish will always be,

To be a grandma like the ones that gave their best to me.

Grandchildren are our greatest gifts.

      Beautiful poem, Diana!

What a joy it is being a grandmother. It is such a special kind of love to receive from all of the precious grandchildren and it seems they feel the same way in loving me so much too.

Thank you for this beautiful insight.

Thank you, BlossomSB. Grand babies are sure a blessing. I'm expecting my third great grandchild in February. It is fun making things for the little ones.

A lovely poem. It's such a privilege and joy to be a grandma. Most of my grandchildren are grown up now, but - joy again! I'm to become a great-gran in a few months time, so now, especially as it's winter here and sitting by the fire is so pleasant, I have those knitting needles out again, creating all sorts of dainty garments.

Thank you, Jodah. We should stay in touch with our elderly. They have so much to tell us, if we only listen. I sure wish I had asked more questions back then.

Lovely poetry, and tribute to wonderful grandmothers everywhere. I had a couple of good ones. Well done, Diana.

Thank you, Paintdrips for your kind comment. You will be a wonderful grandmother because you know what you want to be.

Very nice. I love the photos. My grandma taught me many things but she wasn't "warm" toward me because of some things I had no control over (she was mad with my parents). I hear about great grandmotherly things that I never experienced ... that are all things I want to be for my grandchildren.
