The Guy Under Depression's Grip

He may seem happy on the surface

His personality may reveal contentment

He'll communicate, he'll laugh

He'll make it look like he's completely alright

But inside he's dying

Inside this "happy guy" is contemplating death

Every night he prays to God to release him from depression's grip

He may seem happy on the surface

But you wouldn't believe what thoughts go on inside his mind

He knows he has a purpose

But inside he's crying

His depression continues to have an overwhelming grip on his soul

But no one really knows

He looks like a typical guy

He's had his fair share of heartbreak

He may seem fine

He may seem alright

But if you were him

You'd realize that inside he's breaking

Inside he's fragile

Inside he's scared of what lies next

But everyday he's still fighting

Day in, day out he fights

He fights to survive with his depression's grip

At times he's optimistic and happy

But other times he's broken and shattered

He's constantly debating between life and death

He's constantly battling with his personal angels and demons

He's constantly questioning his meaning

He knows he's strong

But he always wonders how long until he falls in the pit of his deep, dark depression again

Plenty of times he just wants to hide in a hole

You wouldn't believe how he just wishes to die

And how he never wants to be seen by anyone again

But regardless with how he feels

Regardless of the emotional rollercoaster that he goes on

He'll continue to press on

He'll continue to fight

With patience and perseverance he knows that he'll overcome depression's grip

With patience and perseverance he knows that he'll conquer this hold

Wow this poem is beautiful and powerful. When reading this it brought tears to my eyes. I had a friend that struggled with depression, I remember he called me up late one night and told me that he was planning to end it all that night. It was terrifying. Depression is scary and terrifying. My friend never went through with it however which is a blessing. Your poem reminded me of my own past hurts and pain as well as my friends pain and struggles. Reading your poem I got a sense of darkness that engulfs a person but near the end you offer the reader hope and as a reader I am reassured that me you my friend, we are going to be okay. Because you hold on and you conquer it. Thank you so much. Keep on holding on and never ever let go. Thank you for this. Reading this was powerful and healing. When you find hope you give hope. Your words are power!

Wow. It's encouraging to know that this poem helped you and that you can relate to it. Depression is not fun. As I personally know, because I've recently been diagnosed with it. Anyways, thanks for giving your feedback.
