The Guy Under Depression's Grip -a poem
The Guy Under Depression's Grip
He may seem happy on the surface
His personality may reveal contentment
He'll communicate, he'll laugh
He'll make it look like he's completely alright
But inside he's dying
Inside this "happy guy" is contemplating death
Every night he prays to God to release him from depression's grip
He may seem happy on the surface
But you wouldn't believe what thoughts go on inside his mind
He knows he has a purpose
But inside he's crying
His depression continues to have an overwhelming grip on his soul
But no one really knows
He looks like a typical guy
He's had his fair share of heartbreak
He may seem fine
He may seem alright
But if you were him
You'd realize that inside he's breaking
Inside he's fragile
Inside he's scared of what lies next
But everyday he's still fighting
Day in, day out he fights
He fights to survive with his depression's grip
At times he's optimistic and happy
But other times he's broken and shattered
He's constantly debating between life and death
He's constantly battling with his personal angels and demons
He's constantly questioning his meaning
He knows he's strong
But he always wonders how long until he falls in the pit of his deep, dark depression again
Plenty of times he just wants to hide in a hole
You wouldn't believe how he just wishes to die
And how he never wants to be seen by anyone again
But regardless with how he feels
Regardless of the emotional rollercoaster that he goes on
He'll continue to press on
He'll continue to fight
With patience and perseverance he knows that he'll overcome depression's grip
With patience and perseverance he knows that he'll conquer this hold
