How do hummingbirds behave?

Which is your favorite backyard bird?

See results

The deft

Patter of wings

Moves up,round, in an eights

Flying forth with stoic strength, so

Constant

Hovers

Travels swiftly

Flits now from bud to bud

Grabs its spoils as it ascends with

Triumph

Tiny

Fits in flowers

Petals close on small frame

Wings cause a stir as it flies out

Unfazed

Long beak

The tapered form

Drawing forth from tubed stem

Gold treasure buried, it rises

Winning

Defends

With might its space

Halts birds it's size double

Emerges from battle, small form

Unscathed

This was a lovely break from reading long hubs. I am watching a hummingbird at my feeder right now.

Hummingbirds are so much fun to watch. We don't have a feeder but they do seem to like visiting our flowers on occasion. I liked your poem very much. Up votes. Speaking of voting, if you had put the cardinal as a choice of bird, that is my favorite to see visiting our backyard birdbath although we also like the robins, doves, sparrows, bluejays and others that frequent it daily.

Love the poem and it fits the personality of the little hummingbird so well - they are keen fighters and yet so small and "delicate." I enjoyed the photos also.

Just lovely Michelle, a beautiful bird full of courage and attitude. I'm not familiar with the hummingbird - we do have visits from glorious parrots.

Thanks for letting me know, Michelle.

I have a short poem here on the blue bird. For some reason I was thinking of the humming bird and wrote the poem. Someone here wrote another which coincided with mines. Could have been you, but I do not remember. Probably a few weeks back.

      Do you like this:

The bluebird, the bluebird, the bluebird, the blue ...

All you are is supremely true.

      Your Souls's infinity's flight,

      All where, you sprinkle, Oneness-delight.

-Sri Chinmoy's song. It's extremely beautiful. I would love to sing it to you. Are you able to read music? Thanks for your input, my sweet. You are in my loving thoughts today. Much peace.
