The Hip Hop Man

Updated on May 16, 2012

Listen up, hear me more

Let me tell you one and all

Met a friend from Forestville

Whose stride is cool and gives a thrill

His hair is long, his name is Sam

He never plays no crazy game

He told me once that I got swaga

I took it well, tho’ I’m no bragger

He’s got a flow for words and a beat for rhyme

I swear if he allocated reasonable time

That his hip hop songs would make music charts climb

And who can then stop the rolling dollars and dime?

Sam’s a cool rapper, he’s a music maker

Not a gun slinging gansta, he don’t wanna take ya

He's livin' and lovin' and will never forsake ya

When dating a girl, he just wanna romance her

He’s interested in music and is writing all the time

Watch out for that bling or you gonna go blind

Sam can go to clubs to sing his rhymes sublime

But here he writes Hubs and does Hip Hop online

Thank you Samuel Donaldson - I wanted to celebrate the fact that you're the first Hip Hop musician I've ever met. You've been kind enough to introduced me to some nice R&B music too but more importantly, you're a talented and really nice guy who deserves to be honoured here at HubPages. I'm sure all of your colleagues here will join me in wishing you every success in the music industry. :)

Oh wow! I didn't even know you published this one! Thank you very much! As I take a peek at the video posted above, it makes me remember when I was sitting in the studio with some of those guys creating that tune! We were all looking around at each other wondering who was gonna rhyme first?

I think because of the competitiveness of rhyming, no one wants to be the first; everyone wants to drop their verse after someone else's! I just said the hell with it, give me the mic and I'll start it off!

I appreciate your kind words here Maria! If you write a few more like these soon you'll be dropping hot metaphors and punchlines and your wordplay' ll be stupendous :-)

It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Vincent. Epigramman has spoken highly of you. Thank you for your rave review. This is the first time in my life I have attempted to write a poem in a hip hop/rapping style. I was inspired upon meeting one of our fellow hubbers here Sam209. It's always a more fulfilling experience for me to write about a "real" person or situation as opposed to an imaginery figure. Thank you for dropping in Vincent. I'm so glad you're a Dylan fan also. I have 530 Facebook friends and they are mostly Dylan Freaks like me. LOL. Cheers, Maria D'Alessandro (Melbourne Australia)

I loved the beat of your words. The Hip Hop Man, I've seen a few in my time. I love music and Bob Dylan is one of my favorites as well, I grew up around his music in the sixties and seventies. I was a hip hop man myself, or maybe just a Hippy hanging around coffee shops, a love-in, flower child of the sixties. LoL I enjoyed this piece, well done.

Incidently, Sam is the first singer who appears in the video here(when he had short hair).

Many thanks Gypsy and Colin - Yes our own Sam209 is a very interesting and musically gifted Hip Hop man who has a great future ahead of him. I can only hope I've done him enough justice here.
