The Lady In White Part 1 (Poetry)
Maybe it was the devil inside me
That made me speed down that highway
Doing 90 in a 55
The best medicine to take after a bad day.
Not another car around
The cool night air my only companion
That’s why when she stepped in front of my car
It was the scariest thing you could imagine.
I swerved to the left
Almost lost control after slamming the brakes
Thankfully I avoided calamity
And my car survived without a single scrape
I put my car in reverse
Mentally preparing for a verbal tirade
What was that lady thinking
Walking down the highway like
It was some kind of parade
I slowed down as I caught site of her
She was dressed all in white
As I stepped out of my car
She gave me the fright of all frights
She was standing right in front of me
Barely an inch away from my face
How was she able to move that fast
And totally invade my personal space
I opened my mouth to say something
But then I caught site of tears in her eyes
Obviously she was a damsel in distress
And far be it from me to ignore a ladies cry
I asked what was wrong
She was to distraught to talk
So I grabbed her by the hand
And told her she did not have to walk
I offered her a ride
To wherever she needed to go
“Just point me in the right direction”
“And we’ll take it nice and slow”
She nodded her head ever so slightly
Letting me know my offer was accepted
So we both got inside the car
Beginning a journey
I never expected.
