The Last Promise
A flower he placed in her hair
a red rose, sparkled with dew
Off he went, far away
leaving her on the bank to wait
His last promise to see her later in life
True love they had
and she waited for him to keep his promise
Soon the dew dried away fromn the flower
Only waiting was the answer.
She, the fair maid, soon forgot the tears.
The rose petals withered within time
and so did the fairness of the maid
Older she would get -but she waited
Not knowing if her love could or would return
When she died, the rose withered and ry
still hung from her gray hair
