The Laughter

Updated on September 16, 2009

God's Children Enjoying Life

The Laughter

I look out the window and the kids are all running

jumping,playing and having fun

I wish I could too go out and play

But my mama says Inside is where I have to stay

We can't let the people see my face

Or the burns on my back

Or my arm that is now out of place

I know she doesn't mean it

To hurt me that way

Because then she would be a monster

And I would be afraid to stay

But sometimes she hurts me

Until I can't breathe so I cry out in pain

But she just doesn't see

That what she does is making me sad

What did I do

Am I really that bad

We would sing songs and color you know

I always wonder

Where did my mom go

Who is this lady

Who causes me pain

Who never says I love you

Doesn't even call me by my name

I pray to you Lord

Take me with you

I want to be safe and happy

Not blue

I just want to laugh

Like the other kids do

Oh please dear father

Can I live with you

Will you read me stories

And tuck me in bed

Will you take away the pain

From my bruised and swollen head

Will you hug me and kiss me

And love me too

Oh please dear Lord

Can I live with you

I wrote this in support of all the children who suffer from child abuse. If you know any child who is being abused please step in and help. They can't do anything to save themselves. So be brave and be their angel of hope and salvation.

I so am touched by this subject. I love children and I can't understand where your mind would have to be to do this. My heart breaks just thinking about it. I pray for these children every night. Maybe one day all the people in the world will care and we can stop the abuse. God bless you

You have done a wonderful job here your poem is heartwrenching. It is so sad about the alarming amount of children being abused!

You are so right one must step in when they know this is the case! Children have the right to be protected!

      Thank you

awsydney that's exactly how I feel. You know if it's not safe at home where mom and dad are where is a child supposed to go for love comfort and the support they need.

Great lesson to all. Our children are our future, nurture them and our future will be bright.

I agree by the time I learned about child abuse I was already a grown woman. I was so shocked and hurt by it all. I can't imagine what it must be like for a child in this situation but I pray for all of them because it's just so horrific to me.

My heart hurts for those children who must feel as your poem so aptly describes. Child abuse in my opinion is one of the most horrific crimes committed.
