The Lights In Her Eyes Grew Dim
She had some strength,
and that was surprising,
she felt weak, dazed,
and the hunger was rising,
the gripping pains
knotted her heart,
and clamped her veins,
she fought back the cries,
as she lowered her head,
and she wanted to close her eyes,
as the salty air dries,
the truth in her darkness,
were nothing but lies,
around her the shadows drew in,
closer, and her breath grew thin,
her body shivered,
and the bit of life
that held her tight, quivered,
the shadows approached
and they seemed to glide,
turning her slowly to the side,
so that they could see her face,
she stiffened,
and swallowed hard without taste,
the sand sticking to her feet,
clinging, stinging,
and the air changed, now hot and sweet,
her heart slowly began to lose its beat,
the fear was clear,
as the shadows whispered
in her bowed ear,
the darkness covered the sun,
and haunting music had begun,
eerie and alarming, very grim,
growing louder,
as the lights in her eyes grew dim.
