The Lone Soldier

Updated on March 13, 2014

He helped to abort a coup and became a head of state then was killed yet no one remembers him.

No single road named after him in the capital of a nation he served and died for.

Not even a monument of him, people lower than him have their faces on the currency.

Not even coin is fit for his face.

Major General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi

The Lone Soldier

A lone soldier gone for us
Forgotten and abandoned
Not even his kinsmen abide
Now we say discrimination
But charity begins at home
Young and vibrant 42 years
All they wanted was revenge
Your blood spilled for us
They didn't immortalize you
The niger bridge is falling
We hear of a new niger bridge
Perhaps it will be named after you
Aguiyi Ironsi bridge
