The Love That Sadly Got Away - Sad Poetry

Updated on July 28, 2012

It could have been the love I am waiting for

The unique feel of the fresh warm wind in winter

Or the unusual cold breeze in the summer's day

But indeed it was just a dream

A dream I always held in my heart

Like the teddy I like to hold on to

Your words are music in my silent nights

They are my guiding light when I am sad

I could have died long before

But you gave me smile and hope

Then suddenly you said goodbye

Things will be better for us, you said

Then I wonder how could it be better

When I was sad and crying

Yes, I understand what you said

But at times it is hard to fathom the words

The heart can't understand what the mind wants to do

How could you just gave up a love

And never fight for the love that was

Maybe you're right, it is the best for us

But who knows what could have happened

We all know what true love can bring

Its only the lovers can feel

The pain a failed love can bring

Specially for a true love

The love that sadly got away.

Lovely poem . I came back to read it again Maita. It is sad but has great meaning. I can picture the love, and the flower adds a great deal to your concept. Maita is such a pretty name. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Blessings, Audrey

Your poetry makes me think about love. Sometimes it is unrequited, and that can be quite sad. However, I guess the positive thing to come out of that is if a person does not reciprocate, you cannot invest too much time in that.

What a lovely poem Maita. I enjoy love stories, even the ones with sad endings. You have a way with words, and I Love your user name. You compared love to a withering flower which is a great comparison. I will share this hub Maita. Thanks for sharing. Blessings Audrey

      - BUMP!! -

And yes I agree with every other comment. The love that sadly got away... was sadly not meant be, but you know when you know love, some love can only be... when it lives free.

And Maita.. tracking cookies also work well! Take care always.. PD

Very bitter-sweet poem, and well written.

Sorry to tell you this, but I think the flower in the photo is really a marigold, not a rose. But it is still very pretty.

      This is a beautiful, but a sad poem. I like what you wrote, "But at times it is hard to fathom the words;

The heart can't understand what the mind wants to do"

You seem to be a strong lady. I hope you have already moved on with your lost love. I guess, it would be lovelier the second or nth time around. Have a great weekend!

Aw, this was sad yet so beautiful too, Maita. Lovely sentiment in here. Ruminating on love lost, or dining on ashes as I sometimes see it. We have been there in one way or another, moi friend. Love can be a menhir splendid thing, and then again, love can be a bitch too! Heh! Cheers!! :)

We search for the right words to say...when love changes. But, ultimately it is too hard to explain. Yet, you manage to describe all the feelings and emotions rather well within this great and sad poem. PDH...I hope you are well...and that this is merely a recollection of thoughts...and of nothing that is current! Signed, Your friend, MPM

Ultimately sweet and poignant, dear lady. I hardly know what to say in response to the feelings expressed, except that expressing them has power to heal, so long as you allow it to begin to relieve the anguish and not let it build up inside. You find your next steps in God's plan for you as you begin to release the lost one. You can heal and go on, deepened by the love and experience. Remember, if it's real it will be there. And unreal is always unfulfilling. No one can cancel the love YOU have felt.

      Beautiful poem.
