The Morning After ~ A Poem
Before the shrine of truth
I cast my love away
It died a long and painful death
So high a price to pay
When all was left was ashes
I looked upon the heap
And saw what was a vibrant fire
Now caused my eyes to weep
I could not see
Nor dared I try
My dreams all fade away
A travesty of love I knew
A heart break and a lie
In quiet solitude
A night so long and cold
I glimpsed the breaking light of dawn
Dark tears now glistened gold
The morning after's warming sun
Soothed my heart so sore
I yearned for hope and love again
But also something more
As seasons passed
I learned I could forgive
A simple thing, perhaps
But joy and peace
Reigned in my soul at last
