The New Ghost- A Piece of Art

The New Ghost by Robert Hunter, immerses you into the world of a ghost on his first day of work. The problem is that the ghost doesn’t know what his job is and soon finds himself lost and separated from the other ghosts he works with. This creative and fascinating story draws its readers into an atmospheric and haunting world. The ghost is trying to figure out what his job is which leads to a deeper understanding of the book. The artwork is beautiful, simple and at most fits the story purposefully. Someone described this story to me as "beautifully illustrated and composed, the story flows so naturally, you’ll feel as though you are peeking into someone else’s daydream." This graphic novel is truly a work of art which captivates its reader like a beautiful painting. While reading this story think deep into it because it is meaningful. Enjoy and take your time reading it.

The Wrong Place

What can I say about this masterpiece other than it is such a beautiful and gorgeous piece of work! The watercolor is so calming and inviting and the story can immerse you and grab your attention. I read this book on a rainy day and just listening to the sound of the rain hitting my window while simultaneously reading this book of true beauty I was mesmerized and believe that you would be too. This book achieves more than many great graphic novels because not only the great amount of work that went into the illustration but the time that went to creating a story that makes you think "wow, how did the author come up with this amazing piece?" I recommend this book to you because The Wrong Place achieves what other great novels miss out on.

Calvin & Hobbes

Calvin & Hobbes is a classic that is funny and heartwarming. This beautiful graphic novel was painted by Bill Watterson an amazing cartoonist whose work could build unique interest in the field of art and story telling. This graphic novel illustrates the world of Calvin and Hobbes a boy and his tiger friend and adventures that they go through in their fictional world. Although this comic is much older and you won't find it on television it is truly a book not to avoid if you are a fan of not only illustration but American History. A great novel that will captivate and immerse its readers with one of kind sense of humor that asks big questions in this big world. I recommend that you check out the Calvin and Hobbes series and if you have younger cousins, nephews, nieces or brother and sisters show them a piece of American History by introducing the two lovable characters in the series Calvin & Hobbes. Enjoy the book.

Beautiful Darkness

Published in 2014, Beautiful Darkness is truly beautiful and a stunning book with painted pages that will make you want to read more. The story is fantastic and can bring light even in this dark book, the art looks amazing and readers are drawn into the story as soon as they find out that lurking through the pages in this world of darkness. Both mysterious and exciting this graphic novel grips the reader into a world of unique fun and excitement. At 94 pages this book is beautiful and could be read quickly. It has received the New York Times best seller and I recommend this for anyone that loves suspense. Happy reading!

Pretty Deadly Vol 1

I love this book! Another beautiful and interesting graphic novel that takes places in a magical/ folklore world. This is a book driven by female characters, they are beautifully drawn and specifically drawn in a way that shows the characters as strong models. Really weird things happen in this story but you will have to read it for yourself. I love the scenery of this book based around nature the main characters are beautifully created. I must warn that the book is explicit so I suggest that you don't show this book to minors. I do not focus on those scenes because it is really story driven. You could get lost in this world and it will have you questioning if these type of worlds exist in another galaxy far away.

UPROOTED

What can I say about this book besides that it is visually beautiful. This novel by Naomi Novik is will grip you and captivate your mind. This story is a fairytale that follows a dragon who is really not a dragon. He is more like a wizard/human that could change his form. You would expect this dragon to be dangerous but instead he is a protector of the land. I don't want to reveal too much information or details but I could tell you that this book is simply stunning!

Chew

Chew by John Layman and Rob Guillory Vol 1, follows the story of Tony Chew who is a food psychic! Yes he chews into food and can actually see where that food came from. So lets say he bites into an apple he could see the exact tree that apple came from. You might be wondering why this is so special? In Tony's universe he is needed to solve a case of the bird flew that is going around and was spread by eating chicken and turkey. He is the man for the job and he's ready to crack the case. This book is funny and believe it or not is interesting. This story will take your mind to unimaginable scenarios and make you want to keep on reading more! The art is awesome and the characters are drawn in such a unique way that fits this type of story. If you are a fan of scifi/mystery then this is the book for you.

ApocalytptiGirl

This book by Andrew Maclean, tells the story of Aria and her cat Jellybean and their survival in the wilderness in a post apocalyptic world. The art work is simple but very put together. If you enjoy post apocalyptic dramas and female driven characters you will like this story and the plot. It is adventurous. I must say though that some science fiction fans were not too pleased with the story. My review is based more around the aesthetics of the book than the level of interest of the book but I believe this is still an enjoyable book. The artwork is awesome. In this classic post apocalyptic science fiction world many things do happen. There are giant fighting robots, gun fights and action packed adventure that will make you keep on reading. If you don't usually read scifi books then the story will be more of a surprise for you. I recommend this book for those science fiction lovers but also warn that this novel could be predictable if you have watched many scifi movies before. This is a young adult friendly book this is a quick read about 25 minutes. Check it out and enjoy the adventure :)

A good group of recommendations; thanks! The artist of Calvin and Hobbes stated one of the reasons he quit was he wasn't able to do the art he wanted as the newspaper space got smaller and smaller...
