The Ode to a Friendship
I met this kid, my real good friend.
The best of times, we always had,
All through high school, he taught me to be an intellectual, and not just this punk rock rebel.
This is for you,
The friend who taught me,
The friend who fought with me,
In the meanest and best of times,
It always just you and me.
We drank and we sang, dancing
Away the school day pain, music, always a steady riot in our soul,
Enhanced by the forests, in our bowls,
This is for us,
The best of friends,
Like a brother, till the end,
Through thick and thin,
It’s always just you and me.
Our futures burn bright, and hey now, we stay proud;
we never see the darkness of night,
We’ll raise our glasses and toast our lives,
grateful for good fortunes, and the always sunny skies.
