The Official Report

Updated on February 5, 2015

Who does the thinking?

Young boys from the block,

coming off a night of binge drinking,

then the shock,

they found themselves in a gunfight,

a turf war,

out to settle a score,

their ignorance could fill an ocean,

shots exploded in slow motion,

the first one catching the fifteen year old

just above the right shoulder blade,

first the popping sound,

and no other noises were made,

but the force knocked him to the ground,

there were several more shots,

they came in rapid fire,

these boys, in the eyes of their mothers,

were still just tots,

a twelve year old and his younger brother,

shot twice in the head,

they were on the wet grass, dead,

their ghosts huddled together in fear,

and when the smoke cleared,

gunpowder and spilled blood

just filled the air,

the young corroded,

their futures eroded,

and the official report stated,

that it was merely gang violence which exploded.

An assistant in this endeavor is quite fine with me . When guns are outlawed only outlaws will be carrying guns.

Great work brethren Frank , a very nice way of keeping something this scary in the public's eye . Like I said a journey of a thousand miles , starts with one step.

      That's yours brethren.

      Keep strong inside.

This is so sad, mostly for it goes on all the time, children killing children over something they don't own anyway to show something that really means nothing. You broke my heart with this one.

Your poem puts the guts in what we often see or hear as a media headline that never connects the heart with the insane violence of gang warfare. I wrote a song about a similar incident when a youth drug deal went bad. The news never touched the sensitivities about life lost. Just the facts mam as Sergeant Joe Friday used to say. But there was great pain and anguish deeply hidden between the lines. Well done.
