The Petal

Updated on November 6, 2015

I see a red petal fall to the ground

A light touch down, it settles.

As light above warms me

with bright rays

And brings,

Smiles and dreams

On bitter days

Days that taste of blood

Like pennies in my mouth.

Days filled with tears

That wet the emerald ground

Finally I hear a whisper -

It soothes me and I grin

Love holds the stitching together

Once more and again

I raise my eyes to meet her face

From which my life

Illuminates

Like the petal of red

So cleverly placed

For me to ponder

On God’s good grace
