The World of Undiscovered Poets: Anexis Denis
Poetry is expression, expression of the mind and expression of the soul. Countless poets scribe their expressions in tomes that will never see the light of day, but a few will give their words a voice. When poetry has a voice it’s a beautiful thing. I discovered the world of spoken word poetry quite by accident, but once discovered this world changed my life for the better. My first time sharing my poetry was on a show called "Poetic Streetz", hosted by G-Roc The General. I was so scared I almost didn’t call in. Fortunately I did call, because if I hadn’t I would never have met this wonderful poet whose poetry I fell in love with and years later I would start a family with.
Anexis Denis
Anexis Denis born and raised in Bronx, New York was the shy girl (you know the one who sits in the back of the class perfectly happy to go unnoticed by the world). This shy girl when confronted with adversity, faced it head on, and like a stone that has been exposed to raging river currents, she shined. The biggest adversity Anexis Denis faced was when her doctor gave her the sad news that she might never be able to conceive children. This news devastated her to her very core, and she wrote about it in a poem titled “The Day I Found Out“. This was the poem I heard Anexis read on that first poetry show I called into, and little did I know that she would one day become the love of my life. I am happy to say that not only was Anexis Denis able to conceive children, she also made me the father of a beautiful set of twins.
Anexis Denis has made many contributions to the world of poetry. Not only is she a spoken word poet, but she has also written a vast archive of poetry that will touch your heart. She was co-host on my Blog Talk Radio show called Forever Poetry, and you would never guess that this well-spoken woman was once the shy girl who used to sit in the back of the class trying not to get noticed. Anexis is also a member of a poetry group called "Blood Money Poets".
Below you will see an example of her spoken word abilities in one of her original poems title "Educated Guess". This poem was about a relationship that ended badly, and it demonstrates her resolve to move forward despite having her heart broken. The vocals were put to music by G-Roc the General of the Blood Money Poets.
