The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants,
But what is it that it really wants?
It skips a beat at the sight of you,
It also races at the sight of you.
It waits incessantly for you for days on end,
When you come, it doesn’t really it pretends.
Remember them in your prayers when you pray,
Honour the guests of your heart they say.
Guests? But they are here to stay,
For its been more than a year and a day.
The demons that it fights day in and day out,
The waves of emotion so profound,
The lamp of hope that it refuses to burn out,
The anxiety that creeps in making it doubt.
It is happy that the dreaded year is finally coming to a close,
It also wonders what the coming year within it beholds.
Standing at the cusp of fulfilling all its dreams,
The burden of expectations that it lies under,
The trying to please everyone no matter,
The hopes and dreams it is willing to surrender.
It wants to forgive and forget,
Move on and let go,
But the shackles of the past,
And the memories it tries to away cast,
Seem to last, forever last.
The heart wants what it wants,
But what is it that it really wants?
