The life within - a poem

Updated on January 31, 2012

Life is precious - Life in the womb too

This poem is about a personal dark time, something that occurred a long time ago, but the pain remains. Life is precious, hold on, love it, never say no.

Life is fragile, love it before it is gone. Live in the present and enjoy the people around you. Celebrate life when you still have it!!

Life within - to my unborn child

My child, my unborn child,

I remember the day when you were conceived,

I felt you, the very first moment in time,

When we were joined together in an eternal bind!

I carried you with love, speaking to you,

Singing songs of love that only you knew,

My life was made meaningful because of you,

Bubbling with joy, of a life so new!

Day after day, I was falling in love,

Passionately building my world around you,

Then came the call and you left me,

I was torn and felt empty!

It was as though my body was tattered,

And a part of me was mangled and battered,

Only my heart knew the pain,

Of what it was, not to feel you again!

I willed with all my heart to hold you within,

But my body was too weak to take the strain,

I fought with all the strength I had,

I, your mom wanted you real bad!

You have gone and left my body bare,

So was my heart and all we shared,

I grieved within me and dried my tears,

I could never face my fears!

I knew you were that baby girl,

That little angel with a pretty curl,

I called you a name, I never named you then,

You became alive once again, ‘Diane’

I felt you inside until it was your time to be born,

I carried you with tenderness and care,

I lived with you in my dreams until I was ready to let go,

Of you, forever, to the other shore!

My baby, I have been blessed because of you,

I have known and felt what is loss,

I have walked the valley of death with you,

The day when my life came to a pause!

I have learnt to love and hold on strong,

To what I have before it is gone,

I have learned to say ‘precious’, because I know,

That life is so precious and frailly so!

I would love to hear from you ......

QudsiaP1, Thank you my dear for those tears of empathy.. to be a woman, a mother is at once a privilege and a torment.. the things you have to go through... That baby taught me so much about life...

I do hope to meet my unborn child someday and tell him/her ( I am convinced it is her though) how much she was loved.. Hugs right back to you my dear... Love and peace.

Your poem brought tears to my eyes because of your love; your each word resonates of emotion; of having loved and lost; of finding and losing; of life and death. Thank you for sharing this my friend.

      *hugs*

You are so right when you say "Life is fragile, love it before it is gone. Live in the present and enjoy the people around you."

When life was gone, it seemed hard to focus on the present.

When the present brings challenges, it seemed lethargic.

When negativity persists, it seemed like Christmas has no

      meaning.

Yesterday should be dead and gone, every soul should focus on today and be able to jump swiftly towards tomorrow's hope/dreams,

Life does not end with death, it continues afterlife.

With each passing, it grows wiser, stronger, peaceful.

With each failure, it embraces, reflects, enlightens.

With each hand/heart, it gives, loves, shares.

With each joy, it receives, recognizes, appreciates.

Every time the heart opens to others, it is released, cleansed, recuperated.

Your poetry is beautiful, dear friend ;)

Emotionally and physically a challenge, because of the changes that take place and yet so beautiful and worth every moment of it. The reward of having a living health baby in your hands is like none other!

Thank you Paper notes for your comment, it is appreciated.

Oh, that is a challenging experience. Motherhood and pregnancy are indeed exciting phases in a woman's life. Yet it can put both the baby and the mother in great risks.

Thank you Fucsia, sorrow is poignantly beautiful, always. Wow, I like the way you called it 'a Hymn to value life'.. Yes, that is my life's ambition, to get people to understand and value life.

Your comment is a balm for the soul, it is deeply appreciated.

Timorous, life is a perfect balance of joy and sorrow. I believe what we do with each of our experiences is what we make of our lives. It was a terrible experience that taught me how precious life is. Thank you for your heart felt comment, I do appreciate it

Awww...shimmering...what a sad, but lovely poem. You've expressed very well what it must feel like for a woman to have to deal with such loss. Nice going.
