The snake on my table

Updated on August 5, 2011

The snake on my table
is looking at me
as I am writing
my poetry

So many thoughts
flowing out of my pen
so many feelings
when writing them

Where do they come from
where will they go
the words about
the things I know

For who do I write
this poetry
will they understand
the things that I see

Will they all feel
what I portray
will they all hear
what I have to say

The snake on my table
is looking at me
as I am writing
my poetry

I feel the same way when I write poetry... will people get it? Will they like or understand it? What will they take away from it, if anything? Good job here. Voted up and beautiful!

It isn't a snake looking at me, it is a fish.

Wonderful poem! I think - noticing Sarah Shepherds comment - that poets do worry a lot about if their readers will 'get it' or 'take something away from it'. I don't think any of the poets on Hub Pages have anything to worry about. As a non-poet and just a reader I get inspiration, memories and teachings from many of the poets here. Ladyfae you are such a one. Voted up + awesome.

Dear Seeker7, what a wonderful comment to receive!!! Thank you so much. It's a good feeling that the words I write have such an impact for that is what I write for. Again thank you.

it is always hard to read a poet's mind. Sometimes when you write people grant it many meanings which when you read it can have an impact. Great hub. My lady, how re you?

How am I doing? Writing a lot of poetry lol. I'm doing okay. Thank you so much for asking. Hope you are doing well.

...love your poetic metaphors and oh so sublime (con)text.

You are a writer's writer and your words, although presently so simply, contain such a powerful and profound message. Hubbravo - that's an epi-word by the way lol lol lake erie time Ontario, Canada 6:57am
