The Price (poem)

Updated on February 1, 2015

The drifting dew which welcomed her to night

The echoes where her heart once use to be

The song how could this have happened to me

All cast their veils on Joys she had in sight

-

Now sorrow’s ears does keep her company

Sheer emptiness draws shadows to her light

While silent scents from past now mark her plight

She waits for promised mercy to be free

-

Why did he leave me comes her painful cry

As cold confusion takes her to abyss

Of shattered hopes and lies of yesterday

-

Then gentle sleep which fate had happened by

Did claim her with the sweetness of its kiss

The price she paid for dream that’s on its way

      Martin,

you are a prolific poet. However, all of your compositions are fresh.

Mhatter99..yes tis' sad.. when we are " dooped " and are left to pick up the pieces..we blame ourselves for believing in another, when we were in fact vunerable..I got the message her " trust in loving " went awry because of a guy, who didn't care..and now she feels the pain..perhaps a sleep will do good, as she might imagine it was just a dream....loved the write...by the way " LOVE " should not hurt....

Some of the best poetry comes from pain and loss. Very well done and expressed.

Sadness is an emotion that sparks poetic words and you've done a great job again, Martin.

It hurts when you lose someone so dear to you and you did this one so well.

Another sad beauty MH but the ending left me with more questions than answers. That too, is an artist's touch. You are such an artist.

Ah, it is painful when someone leaves us, whether or not a lover, but those we love. Thanks for the sweet lullaby, as it is time for sleep.
