This is a story about life.

Updated on June 14, 2014

There is Life

and then there is your life.

If you surround yourself

with miserable people,

You will be miserable.

If you are always the one

doing for others,

Who does things for you?

If your family is demanding

Why keep doing?

If your friends are crazy

Why keep them?

Do you feel un-appreciated?

Then why do you keep doing?

Life is too short.

You only get one life to live.

So why I ask?

Do you keep doing and

get nothing in return.

Sometimes our own family

is our worst enemy.

Sometimes our business partners

and our friends

only dump their problems on us.

Who listens to your problems?

Misery loves company,

so why not detach yourself

from those who make you miserable.

Life goes by too fast.

Why let those around

destroy what you have left?

Who are the people in your life that bring you down emotionally?

See results

Why do you surround yourself with these people?

I thank you Sparklea for stopping by to read. It is sad to waste time with people who are miserable and want you to be miserable like them. Those individuals are people whom I try to avoid.

Hi Lisa: Voted up, useful, awesome and interesting. What a terrific write, which I am sure most can relate to in one way or another. The summary would be: CHOICE. LOVE the beginning: there is life and then there is your life. It is so sad the hours and years wasted tolerating people who add nothing to the art of living.

So thrilled I ran into this. I spotted your excellent comment on DDE's question about writing so stopping by. God bless, Sparklea :)

It's important to take care of oneself, especially in light of escalating and unreasonable demands from those around us.

So true, life tends to unravel at times, esp. when a family member is going through a difficult time. I like DDE's comment, and i agree.

Thank you Jodah and DDE. I wrote this hub with a particular person in mind. I try to avoid those who are miserable and surround myself with positive people. However it is not always that easy. Thank you reading.

Life is a gift as I always say but not wrapped in a bow and should be treated with care and lots of love.

Good poem Lisa, everything you say is spot on. You can't let others live your life for you and bring you down with their demands. Voted up.
