To My Only Girl
It was too much for you to bear
You wanted a rest from the scare
No reason was ever given
So you gave yourself what you needed
To justify your suffering and despair
You put them all to the test, yes
You gave them what they couldn’t give you
Logical answers and dreams
In place of irrational screams
You recounted tales from your imagination
Showing your concern and care
For your friends, teachers and family
And how you loved each one
In your world without sun
How did this come about?
Maybe too much time
Sitting around
Watching films of misadventure
Of those who survived
Against the fury of nature
You know you’re like them
A survivor and a heroine
Your body pulled through
You reached the end so much stronger
Now your mind doesn't need to hold on any longer
It wants rest – just a few more days of slumber
It’s all been too much for one young life
So much to endure, so much strife
Death once knocked on your door
Always looking for spirits poor
You sent Him on his way
For you planned on Earth to stay
You can leave for a little while
To find peace from this cruel world
But please return
For I don’t want to live alone
Without you I shall be cold and fade
Like an iceberg floating in the ocean
Diminished with each splash of a wave
Until loneliness and time melts it away
We fought so hard
Right from the start
Together we banded
Against the legions of Satan
Over firey hell and mahem
Against great odds given
And by God we did prevail
Let’s finish this journey
With its many hurdles
Your mind is our last frontier
Let’s not give in
Not now
You and I
For we were born to win
