Today, A Poem about life as one author sees it.

Updated on August 23, 2015

I woke up today

and got ready for work.

A typical Monday

with Summer's heat

and humidity among

the bright sunshine.

A typical day with no purpose

just routine.

You go throw the motions

as though you are a robot.

It is what you do,

just get through the day.

As you do your work

you look out the window

and the sun is gone.

The clouds have come

and the day became

dark and dismal.

You stare out the window

of your office and see

the mist and rain

as it approaches.

You know when you

leave work it will be raining.

Yet you do not care.

You get ready to leave work

and home you go.

There is nothing waiting for you

you feel so alone.

Where are the flowers,

the sun, the happiness?

You know it never used

to be this way.

You open the mail,

cook your dinner,

and put the television on,

mostly for sound.

You feel so depressed.

How did things get this way?

Is this what life is?

Questions you cannot

answer, as you look out the

window, the sun now sets

and darkness has come.

It's late and you need to go to bed.

Tomorrow you go back to work.

It will be Tuesday.

But for you,

it is just another day.

Another day to get

Just another day.

Thank you ChitragadaSharan and mantia44. Yes life can get pretty grim and sadness does take over. I hope that this year brings more happiness to my life and less sadness. Thank you for your heartfelt comments.

Nicely expressed poem from the point of view of how a depressed person feels about every day as just another day.

I try to be positive every morning whatever may have happened yesterday. The more we stay away from negativity the better it would be for us.

      Thank you for sharing !

Yes it does play on the sadness side of life. For 2016 I hope to write more optimistic and happy hubs. Those that bring good health and happiness to all my fellow hubbers. Thanks you for stopping by to read. I look forward to reading your hubs as well.

Yes this is true for many of us. I hope to write for positive and optimistic hubs for 2016. Less sadness and more happiness is what I wish for all my fellow hubbers. I look forward to reading more of your hubs as well. Thank you for your comment.

Yes it seems we reflect more on sad times in our life and less on the happy times. I will in 2016 approach my hubs with a more optimistic view on life and what the future holds for society. Thank you for reading. I look forward to reading more of your work as well.

This is a good poem but a little depressing for Christmas. You did a great job of writing about a humdrum life, as it sometimes can be. It makes you want to be happy, so maybe it serves a good purpose. All types of poetry interest me. Thanks for sharing your ability. Blessings, Audrey

I had to come to some sober terms , I can let the "down "control my life and I can let the hours fly by as life ignores whether I am happy or not . Or I can just try every day win. Nice writing !

happiness is like a crackers sparkle, last for few minutes.

sadness is like incense , that lingers on long after it is gone.

Very nice but definetely sad. Pls write some sparkling jokes too.

So sorry you're finding life difficult. Know that you have supporters and friends on hubpages and it's good that you are at least looking forward to tomorrow. You have a community here around you.

Thank you always, Frank, annart and brakel2 for reading this sad hub. Sometimes life is just so difficult and trying to find the good among the bad does not always work. Today was and still is a bad day. However, there is always tomorrow to look forward to.

Hi Lisa - Excellent poem about depression and then thinking about going forward. Your pics almost tell the story without the words. I am glad you are still on this site with your excellent hubs. Have a great day. Blessings, Audrey

I hope, too, that this is not the way you feel personally. You've put across the raw emotions so well; despair and gloom. Your last illustration says it all, though; it's no good going over and over the last chapter - look forward to the next one and make something good happen!

Great poem. Using the weather, day & night, etc mirrors our emotions well.

I can relate to this. Since I've lost my friend Tom I find myself thinking along these lines then I get busy but the feelings linger.

Thank you Alicia for reading this hub and commenting. Depression can have some serious affects on a person's well being. This is exactly the message I wanted to give when I wrote this.

This is an interesting but depressing poem, Lisa. I hope it doesn't reflect the way you feel in real life, despite the title of the poem! I think the advice given in your last photo is very applicable to all of us.
