Tonight....A vampire poem

Updated on July 5, 2013

Tonight I won’t let you in

I am going to be strong and ignore your call

No matter how I yearn for your touch on my skin

Into your darkness I won’t fall

Yet as the darkness fills the sky

Anticipation for you makes my heart beat

Emotions too hard to deny

As you arrive in my street

Locking the window tight

Backing away slowly as your voice fills my head

From your passionate chase there is no respite

My excitement mixing with dread

Hearing your voice I shiver

Resisting your call full of persuasive command

Feeling my willpower crumpling I waiver

How I long to take your hand

The windows burst open

As you appear from the mist in front of me

In your obsessive gaze I am trapped frozen

Knowing I will never be free

Love and fear warring

I can’t deny the danger I see in your eyes

But try as I might to deny, I am yours for the taking

Despite my minds fearful cries

Vampire love
Vampire love

Pulled into your arms I’m lost

Your dark kiss, claiming more than my heart

The fatal line finally crossed

From all I’ve known I eagerly depart

Into the darkness we fall

A freshly made vampire bride

Hearing only the sound of your dark call

Forever sworn to your immortal side

This was awesome. When I read this, I was reminded of the book "Dracula, My Love" by Syrie James, in which the book is told in Mina Harker's point of view. Mina becomes attracted to the count and the story becomes rather seductive and sexy, kind of like your poem. Voted up beautiful and awesome!

To be choosen by the dark can be a double edged fate, gaining so much, yet losing all that you were to do so, I can understand your empathy

Im glad you liked it :)

      How best to answer this....

Even as a little girl I would be the one chosen to tell the scary tales at the sleepovers, knowing full well that their screams of delighted fear would bring worried parents who would inevitably exile me to sleep in another part of the house.

But I never stopped telling them, I knew a strong reaction when I seen it.

I have always found supernatural stories to be full with human emotion, especially in the genre of horror, where its sheer nature is to be confronting, to shine a mirror on the underbelly of human society.

Be it the form of a cautionary fairy tale we read to our children (snow white’s vain step mother was after all a witch) or in the ever growing violent headline news, it is in every aspect of our lives, at the church we attend (hell is a great motivator) or the fearful wait for news at the doctor’s office.

There is so much raw emotion to explore; I think that is my greatest fascination with the genre

And now with the Paranormal romance hitting best seller lists around the world; horror has been tamed with a loving hand, leaving more options and story lines for writers to work with than ever.

But there are a lot of movies that have me wishing I could look away, but for me they don’t give me nightmares, the ones that scare me are often my best inspirations :)

I am just curious, but is there a reason why you have a "love for the supernatural"?

I promise not to write a book and include your response, it's just that you seem to "possess" a passion for it beyond campfire stories and Friday night horror flicks.

I remember when I was a wee lad, I used to watch WGN's "Monsterous Movies" on channel 42. I was completely terrified sometimes, but couldn't stop watching it nonetheless.

After leaving the Chicago area, years ago, I stopped watching horror movies and kinda developed "thin skin", which will no longer allow me to take much of it in.

Do you have troubles sleeping at night as a result of your passion for "the supernatural"?

I am so glad to have you visit :)

I have to admit I do write a lot of darker hubs, be they short stories or poems they will generally focus on my love of the supernatural,

But I am simply thrilled that you have made the time to read over some of my work even if they do contain "frightening things"

This has got to be the first poem about vampires that I have ever read...and a mighty fine one at that!

I have wanted to come over and read your Hubs, but I generally do the Hubpage thing only in the evenings, and it seems many of your Hubs deal with vampires and potentially frightening "things".

Being somewhat of a coward and highly susceptible to powerful imagery, I made a date for this afternoon to read some of your work. I pray that I can overcome any scary imagery by nightfall. :0)
