Too Young for Shadows

Updated on May 28, 2014

Young, Lost, and Alone

Source

The darkness that shrouds the light

Of those luminescent eyes

That shone with mischief and smiles

Of half-spoken, half-concealed delight

Too young to be so forlorn

In wisdom that to age belongs

Not in vibrant hues of spring

Rather, layered in winter chills

Too young indeed is one so lost

In questions that penetrate the heart

Before life’s journey is one score done

The miles stretch long to where it runs

Along shadowy trails on murky paths

Oh, that is not where young life belongs!

Yes indeed youth for some is wasted away, if only we were as wise then as we are now, aged like vintage wine, pressed and molded into who we've become. These words captured my poetic attention, "Not in vibrant hues of spring Rather, layered in winter chills." beautifully worded, voted Up and shared.

Thank you, Ken, for your kind and generous comment. I am pleased to meet you. Life is harsh and it pains me to see young people wither before their time, as sadly we see so many around us. There are some I have known personally and their plight compelled me to write this short poem.

Thank you also for voting it up and sharing it.

Hello Kenneth! I am humbled by your praise and thank you for coming by to check out my hub. I am still new around here and a bit slow in publishing - life's daily grind keeps me from spending enough time doing what I love - writing.

I shall most certainly become your follower and read your hubs! Thank you.

      Dear wordswithlove,

Thank you, dear friend, for your care that I do feel in your comment. I am resting now from what things I could do in my home. I so enjoy reading your comments. They give me a charge of hope for another hub or another idea. I am so grateful to have you in my life. I am honest. And I want to extend a warm, heart felt thanks to you for looking out for me.

I wish the same for you, dear wordswithlove.

Thank you, Kenneth. Inspiration is vital to creativity, while it is there around us, sometimes it takes a vision to find it, or some sort of trigger. I am happy I am able to trigger that for you!

You are most welcome and thank you.

      Dear (FRIEND) wordswithlove,

You are welcome. You do that, creative an inspired idea that leads to a solid thought that can be expanded with other inspiration that YOU created in me.

But I value YOUR friendship with me, more than any perfect hub, if any, and all of the accolades that accompany it.

I enjoy the moments when I check my emails and there you are. I start to smile and then realize I have been BLESSED with a warm, caring, Special Friend in you.

One day soon, I will go to your Fan Mail and send you a sample of my Abstract/Prose work.

You have a peaceful day. And stay in touch.

A real shame; kids just grow up so fast anymore although not in the way kids did centuries ago. Too bad we don't have an answer to prevent it and that it can sometimes be so tragic. Great poem.

      Hi, wordswithlove,

This piece, is one of those pieces that one cannot just read once or twice and continue with life. This writing is a liken to a hypnotic-drawing to the heart that causes one's will to be led back time and again to "this" beautiful piece that is so well-written from your heart.

I just wanted to say that to you.

      Love Always,

      Your Friend, KENNETH

Thank you, Jackie. Our world today is fraught with anxieties that shadow the lives of children, creating a host of problems and robbing them of the joys of childhood. This poem was inspired by one such child.

Kenneth, I am touched by your kind words and love of this little poem. Yes, it is written from the heart. Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing children hurt and unhappy, or depressed and lonely. This poem is based on the life of one such child.

Thank you for visiting and reading this again.
