Too Young for Shadows
Young, Lost, and Alone
Darkness shrouds the light
of those luminescent eyes
that shone with mischief and smiles
of half-spoken, half-concealed delight
too young to be so forlorn
in wisdom that to age belongs
not in vibrant hues of spring
rather, layered in winter chills
too young indeed is one so lost
in questions that penetrate the heart
before life’s journey is one score done
the miles stretch long to where it runs
along shadowy trails on murky paths
oh, that is not where young life belongs!
