In the early days of comics, the need to tell a story is superimposed on the internal coherence of the universe. This is how Superman acquired many of his incredible powers during the Golden Age; any narrative obstacle could be overcome with a new super skill custom designed for the occasion.

Time passed and with it that narrative style. But the myth that Superman is invincible prevails to this day. What characters can defeat Superman ?, Here is a list of the five most powerful that could defeat the man of Steel. Including Heroes and Villains...

Do you think that Superman is invincible?

1. Martian Manhunter

He has almost the same powers as Superman, the only difference is that he does not require a physical act to implement them, which makes it a great advantage over the Man of Steel. He also has other powers such as telepathy, intangibility and invisibility and shape-shifting, skills that Superman does not have and put him in disadvantage over J'onn J'onzz.

2. Dr. Strange

It is well known that Superman is vulnerable to Magic. This is the reason why Dr. Strange can be a big headache for Superman as he is one of the most powerful Magicians of the entire universe. This, of course puts the sorcerer with some strategic advantage, in a hypothetical battle, for example, moving Superman to an astral plane and attack him telepathically or cover him with ribbons of Cytorrak... The Spell list is endless. and the odds favor Dr Strange.

3. Wally West (Flash)

Who was the second Flash, Wally West, had the ability to take speed to other beings, move in picoseconds and even to time travel through their control of the Speed Force. One can say that a fight with Superman would end before starting.

4. Ion

Superman is not match for Ion

He is an symbiont-entity and is structured by the most pure energy of the DC Universe. This cosmic energy is the parent in the power of Green Lantern and main source of the rings. The symbiote is capable of entering into any living organism, including superheroes. In Green Lantern vol 3 # 145 Ion is introduced into the body of Kyle Rayner, absorbing all his powers of Green Lantern in conjunction with skills of the identity: control of time, space and reality.

5. Odin

Odin is one of the few characters that can destroy entire galaxies in battle. Odin has managed to defeat Set (Snake God) and Galactus (who eats planets). Odin also has the " Odin Force", useful for different purposes such as destroying the shield of Captain America, restore Asgard after Ragnarok and stop time. A true titan of the Universe.

6. Zoom

Superman and Zoom are matched in strength,

The anti-Flash is probably one of the most powerful villains of DC Comics. Unlike his archenemy, Zoom does not uses the Speed Force but instead alters the time, so he seems to run speed light. But in fact, it is their environment which is stopped.

Undoubtedly, Hunter Zolomon could kick Superman's butt in at least 5 out of 10 combats. On more than one occasion it is mentioned that they are matched in strength, and his ability to steal the kinetic energy of others and use it in his favor could be a big headache for the Man of Steel. Especially if it is an immobilized Man of Steel.

7.- Gog

Many characters in DC have used the name "Gog", however, The Gog that interests us here is the one survivor of the nuclear disaster in Kansas that first appeared on New Year's Evil: Gog # 1. We are talking about William Matthew, of course.

This true God is incredibly powerful, he is able to shape reality to the inner desires of those around him. He also has greater strength than Superman, is faster than flash and Clever than than Batman himself. Enough?

8. Joseph Meach

Also known as Composite Superman, this character has the combined abilities of all members of the Legion of Super-Heroes : Supergirl , Mon -El, Ultra Boy, Batman and Superman himself , but augmented version .That Said, Kael-El alone, won't be a real match for this freak.

9. Mister Mxyzptlk

Mister Mxyzptlk can Shape Reality at his will
Mister Mxyzptlk can Shape Reality at his will

This imp from the 5th dimension has the ability to shape reality at his will without the need of relying on fantasies of others, as in the case of Gog. His only weakness (classic from the time the character emerged) is to say his name backwards, which immediately returns him to its origin.

Of course, if we abide by the comparison of powers there is no room for uncertainty. Mxyzptlk is more powerful than Superman.

10. The Anti-Monitor

The Anti-Monitor, more powerful than any god known
The Anti-Monitor, more powerful than any god known

The Anti-Monitor ... well, how to explain it ... it's beyond being a god, a demon or a stew of all the villains together, is the entity that controls the anti-matter in the universe. Period.

Their participation in the DC Universe is the root in the event of 1985, Crisis on Infinite Earths and, of course, the result was devastating. Comparing powers, Superman is nothing against the Anti-Monitor, in fact, only the Monitor is "something" compared to this villain.
