Two Fantastic Works
Two Fantastic Works
Recently, I took the opportunity to read two fantastic works. El Cantar de Mio Cid and La Celestina are very important works in the histories of Spain. Both works are similar in many ways.
It is important to realize some simple similarities. Both texts were written hundreds of years in the past. Also, each work has romantic things. In the stories of both works, there is much speaking. And, finally, both works are divided in sections.
But, what about the principle characters? Calisto in La Celestina and El Cid in El Cantar de Mio Cid are people of honor. Each person has much love for their dear. The difference is that, in El Cantar de Mio Cid his dear is his wife, and in the other work, the dear of Calisto does want a husband.
More, both works have religious themes. Each work was written around the Middle Ages in Spain. And for that reason, both texts are religious. G-d is mentioned a lot in each work.
In these texts, the people conspire. In El Cantar de Mio Cid, they were the infants of Carrion. In La Celestina they were two women. But, in each case, their intentions were bad.
El Cantar de Mio Cid and La Celestina are important and marvelous texts. They are essential works to comprehend the historical culture of Spain.
