Two Poems for My Brother

Updated on September 29, 2010

Advice from Afar

One

Pain will pass                                                                                            Anger is useless

There is a place for you

No one can do anything to you that you don't allow
Consciousness is the ultimate gift
Joy is fleeting
So is hurt
So is life
You are responsible
Someone who doesn't want to hear won't
Your primary responsibility is to your world
Your primary responsibility is to yourself
You are your world
It has also been phrased as "I am the lord thy God.”
Children are gods and God’s gift.
Presents and money and power won't make up for the pain.
Time is all we have, time is all we need
If you allow your self to win you will
If you allow yourself to be defeated you will
Allow yourself to win, even if it means that you are defeated
Don't give up your power, give up control and you gain the world

The Gift

Treat everyone, even yourself with the total respect that is their due

take time out each day to enjoy this great gift of life that we have been given to share and cherish it as your most prized possession, it is.

Respect the beliefs of others, not always believing or understanding those beliefs, but at least acknowledge that they are as important to the people that hold them as yours are to you.

Never put yourself or others in danger, for the supposed brave act of the moment may prove false in retrospect.

Hate very little in this life, save and except those things that threaten either your safety or the safety of others.

Give time to those who need it, but not so much that you have none for yourself.

Always be aware that some who need your time and love most don't have any way to ask for it.

Strive to be more then you are, but always remember who you were.

If you were able to look into the soul of everyone you met your heart would break and you would hug them to you as a long lost friend and weep for their pain.

They would hug you too.

Take time to know your own mind

always be willing to ask for help

Realize that you may never always get the help that you need, and may never be able to give it every time it is asked of you,

Know what love is and what it is not.

Many live and die without knowing love, strive always to let love into your heart.

If you always keep in mind that as you grow so do we all, then it may make it easier when you stumble.

Learn quickly, but never so much that you stop learning.

Know when to walk away.

Learn from everyone you meet and every experience that you have.

Strive always to win. Be ready to lose, and if you do, learn from your mistakes.

And then you haven't really lost.

Love, trust and guide children, for in them, our future is being grown.

Be quietly wise.

A kind word and a smile are sometimes more valuable then gold.

Strive for happiness.

Accept sorrow, and then move on.

Pay attention to details; all things are related.

When the world has abandoned and disappointed you. You are all you have left.

You will sometimes disappoint yourself. Get over it, get over yourself and learn.

Repay the gift of life you’ve been given.

The strongest word is “No.”

The Universe is your hat size.

Live!

      Parables packing profundity.

      Each line worthy of contemplation.

I hope your brother hears you.

There is much there we all need to know.
