Two Sons

Updated on April 18, 2013

In 1994, just one month shy of his 17th birthday, my son Corey died. There is not one day that passes that I do not think of him. This poem is for him.

Two Sons

Two Sons
Grew nine months
under my heart
Born one minute apart
Close

So closely linked

Best friends
Allies
Alibis

One spoke for the other.
Never betrayed their bond.
Punishments meant for one
Meted to both.

So closely linked.

One with an easy smile
Loving touch
Huge heart
Full of forgiveness

One a charmer,
Tender,
Clever and
Full of humor
A compliment to his twin.

So closely linked.

A grandson shares his name
I see a spirit in him
That will never be lost
Bonding him with an uncle he'll never meet,
but knows in his heart.

So closely linked.

Beautiful children Annie! I am sorry about your loss; it must be an unbearable pain to lose one son whaterver the circumstances. What a nice tribute to both your sons with their complicity! What a nice gesture of your son to give the name of his brother to his own son.

Thank you for sharing your soul with this beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing also the pictures.

It took me a long time to come to terms with the loss of my son, kidscrafts. It may have been the realization that his death didn't just affect me - my family and close friends were also dealing with it. I wanted the poem to convey how loved and special Corey was, and that he lives on in all of us who knew him.

The one common thread when talking to others who are dealing with the loss of the loved one, is that they want that person to be remembered.

As a parent it's not normal to lose our children before we go so it must be very hard. I have several friends who have been through that experience and you are right when you wrote that it affects everybody, the parents, the family, the friends even kids that were at school with them. In your case, it must be also very hard for his twin brother as twins have always extra special bonds.

I can feel a lot of love in your poem!

      Take good care of yoursef!

This is a wonderful tribute to your son and his twin and the whole family.

Your words fill me with emotion, such pain and sadness and love. And then your lovely grandson carrying on the name. Beautifully written and expressed. Thank you.
