U Made Me Cry

Updated on August 4, 2014

Yo, I will never forget about you.

I’m happy with someone else,

but I still have the occasional dream about you.

And you broke my heart

so, so bad

but I still dedicate prayers to you.

I hear songs that still remind me of us

and I remember all of the lust,

blind trust

and nights we both messed up.

After being lit up,

we were way too drunk

off of each other

and other stuff.

His and her whisky,

his and her screaming,

his and her stress,

til his left her a hot mess.

You are the skeleton that lives

in my closet,

the criminal who took my heart

as his hostage

and then you shot it.

I bled, but I survived it.

And I will never forget the tragedy.

I will always remember

how you were not aching for me,

but you ached until

you ached away from me.

You found freedom and courage

outside of me.

And I don't speak today

to dwell on the past,

I speak today to say

I am proud we got through that.

Hell no we can't be friends.

Hell no we can't get it right,

but I found closure

and that opened my eyes.

I look into his eyes

and thank God for my prize.

I pray for your broken heart

cause I know God has healed mine.

Hell no we can't be friends

and no you can't have me.

No, I don’t miss you.

Please stop asking.

Don’t ask me why,

I am done now.

You know what I did.

You know what you did.

Don’t let history repeat itself.

Yo, I still remember everything about you.

Yo, every now and then

I have a dream about you.

But I have vowed to move on without you

because you made me cry.

We live, learn and let go, right Jan? Thank you for stopping by. I'm glad you liked the poem. : )

Nice Ryem. Last line, 'you made me cry,' feels like it holds a host of hurts that go way beyond just a cry. Love the strength displayed in letting go.

Thank you Mhatter for both reading and listening! It's always nice to see you. I'm glad you like the poem.

Yea, Philly you're right. Pain is everywhere, but the most beautiful part about it is finding closure at the end.

Thank you Simba for commenting. You have an excellent insight on the subject. It really is true that we would take joy for granted if there weren't any pain.

Good again, the pain that always keeps someone in our hearts is such a cruel part of our existence but without the regret you would never have memories of pleasure.

      This is brilliant
