Unappreciated
What More Can Mom do?
1. 9 months I subjected her to progressive backaches
Thrice I threatened to abort over cup-cakes
Never gave her a break all through that period
She never complained; never dared use the steroid
All she got were kicks - I did give her licks
She abandoned her rest to learn useful motherhood tricks
Just to make sure I got the best out of her
Wonderful, Unappreciated mother!
2. When I came (though she strained in pain)
She laughed for joy to see me - pink and plain
In her eyes, I was already a superstar
But all she got was wail - I even bawled harder
Back home I never gave her a moment's rest at night
Even when she was exhausted - I demanded my Babyish right
Not caring all she'd been through for me - the bother
I kept stressing my poor, sweet mother.
3. She cooked the best meal every single morning
Got my clothes clean without really ever complaining
I gave her trouble in the house and out
Her heart ached to see what I did her rules to flout
"Kaycee, don't go outside, it's raining!"
And I'd get up in a huff and hit the ceiling!
Never once tried to say a proper "Thank you"
Not even a miserly little "How do you do?"
4. Now I'm all alone - mum's got the rest she deserved
T'was one fateful Spring morning - I observed
Mum looked at me with a hint of sadness
I never knew it was a sign of her preparedness.
I came back from my daily routine, ready to scream at mama
And I met the Flintstones and Dawsons - it looked like a drama
It was too late to appreciate this crushed little flower
For there, on her bed, was the body of my dear mother!
Mothers are awesome and hard to replace - Do not wait
Tell them what they need to hear - before it becomes too late!
