Uncertain Distance

Updated on April 27, 2011

Mist diffuses
The vibrant green
Of newborn leaves on
Elms along the distant road
Rush hour uncertain, hushed

Diffused by a vapor curtain
Angles softened and distance obscured
The world seems to draw closer
As in a room one draws the blinds
Separating intimate space

In the midst of subdued hues
Softly unhurried footsteps
Filled with immediacy
Leading to uncertain delights
In a distant room

Driving is surreal
Suburban landscape
Disappearing at variable distance
With familiar uncertainty
Like a faded watercolor

Diaphanous world
Colored with pastels
Applied by translucent hands
Melting in the mist
Of uncertain distance

There is a gentleness to this one that is comforting.
