Upon Listening to the Rain Fall

Sherri runs a online craft store and enjoys gardening and listening to classic rock. One day she hopes to be a writer.

Upon listening to the rain fall heavily

Torrents of water pounding against glass

Like wet pebbles

They assault my window

No mere shower from heaven

Instead a loud crashing explosion

The sky erupting like a geyser

Water running down grey-shadowed streets

My heart pounds in time with the rain's fury

I think of you and the times we were alone

No mere shower from heaven

Instead a loud, crashing explosion of emotion

And the rain continues her assault

As I listen to the downpour and the beating of my heart.

This is such good real poetry! I suggest you enter it in your state poetry society contest, or find another place.

Thank you so much. It is too late to enter this poem into the Virginia contest, but I did submit a few of my other poems.

Thank you. I am writing this response as I facilitate a course in English Composition. You comment reminds me of the importance of encouragement.

Cool! I also teach Sociology and Comparative Religion. I love teaching and have been blessed to have wonderful students.

I work at a small Liberal Arts University in North Georgia. My areas of expertise are not nearly as inclusive as yours, but I do coordinate out IDS Interdisciplinary Studies program. Students can choose from three different disciplines to build an IDS major. They also have to take 4 IDS courses which are thematic, but address the material from the perspective of at least three disciplines. Great fun and a lot of student interest. :)

How interesting. The format sounds very student centered and empowering.
