Used To Be..(a poem)
“How much longer is the world willing to endure this spectacle of wanton cruelty?”
― Bertrand Russll
“You cannot continue to victimize someone else just because you yourself were a victim once—there has to be a limit”
― Edward W.Said
Used to be a child
with a doll and bag
Used to have home and swing
School and friends
Used to fly kites
When the wind blows
Used to sledge
When the snow covers the hill
Used to climb trees,
Water flowers,
Milk our calf,
In a spare time
Used to be me,
Living my age
Used to be free
Out of cage
Sticky fingers, hair gone wild
Grass-stained knees, fancy wall artwork
Paper boats, popsicle stick dolls
Buy me candy
Take me city
Used to be..
But now gone
Like dust
Vanished
Like burst bubble,
Me,
Like never was there Used To
BOOM
House,
Parents
Burnt to crisps
I remember
Used to be in the field
That time
When the Israeli jet-fighter
Unload its lethal cargo
Like yesterday
Now
Boom Boom Boom
Rainbow aloft the foreign sky ceiling
Red, yellow, blue
Twinkly in my boy's eyes
July 4th .
