Valley Of Bones
Decision! Decision! Decision in the Valley of the Alive!
The Wind it blows where it will and it cannot be stopped by men
It bends and it shapes and pushes and sometimes it pulls
“Listen!” the wind whispered to me as I stood in the sun
“Listen!” it whispered in my ear, saying to me
“Listen to me! I am older than the hills you climbed as a boy
Older than the fields you walked in when you could go where you pleased
Older even than the water in which you swam when you went too far from the shore!
Surely, man, surely I know
Surely I know all the things that one who is old
As old as the Earth itself
Surely I know all these things!
Listen! And I will teach you!”
I bent my ear to the wind, but all I heard was the rush
The rush of the wind as it blew around my head
Pushing my hair
Decision! Decision in the Valley of the Alive!
I bent my ear but did not hear the things that one who is old
As old as the Earth itself
Would have to teach me.
But when I wasn't listening, I heard
Listen!
I heard the sound of the words gently
Almost out of reach
I heard the sounds that men make
The sounds they make when they contend with men
When they contend with other men, or with the Earth
Or when they push back against the wind
Decision! Decision in the Valley of Bones! Decision!
The decision was made and written on a piece of paper
It can never be reversed, never turned back
What is unlocked cannot be shut
What has been uncovered will never be put to shame!
Oh mighty men, where have you all gone?
We have gone to the Valley of Bones,
To the Valley of the Alive!
Decision! It was made and once it was decreed
It could never be changed!
And a green and fertile place was decided
Where men could contend with the earth
Until they forced it to give up it's secrets
And then they could push back against the wind
Decision! Oh man, make now the decision
For once it is made
You can never change
Hurry! Make now your decision!
In the Valley of Bones!
