WALKING THE BOARDWALK...by b. Malin
INDIAN SUMMER...
It's late October, and it's "Indian Summer" here on the Jersey Shore. The past week has been Beautiful with the Sun shining, and the Temperature in the Mid 70's. The Ocean has turned into soft waves that roll lazily onto the shoreline, while the Seagulls circle the skies, that are painted, Picturesque Blue. The "Little ones", the children, run along the beach, exploring the wonders that are found beneath their feet. Putting their new found Treasures into small sand pails. No one wants to see these days end, but as Seasons come, and Seasons go, you know this "Treat" will eventually give away to winter. But today, as Lover Man and I stroll the Boardwalk, we talk and "people watch"....and that's where this story begins.
There is a couple walking alongside of us. She is quizzing him as only a Woman can. The feeling we have, is that they have slept together the night before, and he has taken her for Brunch, in one of the Wonderful Restaurants along the along the Jersey Shore ...And now they are walking the Boardwalk. They are not married... How do I know that? Because she is LAUGHING at EVERYTHING he says. And Trust Me, HE'S NOT that FUNNY! He is about 50 something, not bad looking, with Blackish, Salt & Peppered hair. She, late 20's, maybe early 30's... a pretty Blonde. You can tell HE thinks he's a COOL guy...How do I know that? Because he seems to be Happy only talking about himself, and ALL the Women He has Dated. For example...
He..."I went out with the Woman for awhile and she wanted to go Biking. All I had was this Old Bicycle built for 2. She said, I'm not riding on that thing, it's ALL Rusty! So, I went and bought a NEW Bicycle built for 2, and then she didn't want to go biking anymore, she'd lost interest... I broke up with her". Once again She is Laughing, but sounds a little nervous, and then she says...
"So you seems to date a lot of Woman, has there ever been Anyone Special"? "Not really, he replies, I kinda like playing the field". Again She is Laughing. I'm thinking, Run, Girlfriend, RUN! This guy is a PLAYER! He's 50 plus, and he still likes playing the Field!
Lover Man and I decide to go out onto the Pier. They follow behind us. I said softly to Lover Man, "What did you think of him"? " Not much" is his reply. Then we realize that they are standing near us. She is Laughing once again, the Seagulls, seems to be Laughing...Lover Man and I start Laughing, It's like a total LAUGH IN!
I turn to Lover Man and say, "Well, maybe She'll be the One for him". Then we both look over at them. He is whispering something in her ear, and she is smiling up at him. Lover Man takes my hand, it's starting to feel a little cool, the Weather is changing...
