Waiting For Someone To Die - In a Poem About Waiting For A Kidney Transplant
Poem 13...National Poetry Month
As I was in the waiting room, waiting for my CT scan for my own kidney issues, I talked to a man whose wife was waiting for a kidney transplant. From that, this poem was born.
Waiting
Waiting
She was waiting in the hospital
Her attitude was sad
She really didn’t know
How much time she really had
She was born with a horseshoe kidney
Had trouble since she was born
Infection after infection she had
And now she was torn
She had one too many of them
Her right side kidney was shutting down
She thought of all of this
On her face was a deep frown
Soon she would need dialysis
And other helpful measures
She took careful stock of her blessings
Thanked God for every treasure
She looked out her window
At the traffic driving by
Never once did she ever think
Of asking the good Lord why
She knew these things happened
Always a lesson learned
Every wrinkle, every gray hair
Was very heartily earned
Now she waited quietly
Couldn’t understand why
If she wanted to live
Someone else first had to die
