War - Poem

Updated on August 23, 2010

War

fearless soldiers
trapped in youth
what did they die for?
their side's truth
what they look for
they can't find
so they shoot the
opposing mind

countries playing
deadly games
never caring
whose blown away.
all the crying
all the names
mother's waiting
by empty graves

can you see me?
do you care?
do you see that
there's someone there?
people are living
different points of view
and you dare say
you have the truth!

see the bombs drop
from the planes
see big holes blow apart
what's in the way
people dying
bombers don't care
can't see the bleeding
from way up there.

if there's a conflict
then we fight
we tried talking
to make it right
we sent old men
with diplomatic skill
when things break down
we have to kill.

have no patience
when you're strong
your resistance
won't last long
when you are stronger
are you always right?
if they don't agree with us
must we always fight?

A little late with the thanks but thanks for the comments - means a lot coming from a soldier.

Excellent poem. Thank you. One thing to remember is that Soldiers are the messengers and not the kings. In the U.S. the people are the kings, the politicians the servants. Let us never forget that Wars are the fault of the people's inability to select morally just leaders, either via intended ignorance, or manufactured via propaganda. It is up to the citizens of the U.S. to hold their leaders to justice, and laws of man. Soldiers follow orders. This is as it should be.
