We Bought A Zoo

Updated on June 4, 2011

We Bought A Zoo

'We Bought A Zoo' describes how Benjamin Mee and is family ended up buying and running a zoo in the English countryside. Originally, as a family they were just looking to purchase a large house with a big garden. Amongst the details of properties they were sent was a zoo. They then decided to do something a little bit different and after lengthy and stressful negotiations they purchased the dilapidated Dartmoor Wildlife Park.

The Dartmoor Zoo had been dropping to bits for a number of years and needed a lot of work doing. This involved not just repairs and rebuilding but the hiring of new staff and the implemtation of a number of new projects. The collection was in desperate need of promotion to raise the cash to fufill the plans and aspirations. We Bought A Zoo describes in detail the trials and tribulations of running and managing a zoo.

As it was a family based decision to purchase the story which many people can relate to. There is happiness and sadness too mixed with humour and the unfamilar.

The Book has been a great success and is now being made into a movie directed by Cameron Crowe and starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Elle Fanning. The shooting of the movie starts early in 2011 and the release date is scheduled for December 2011.

The movie is based on a true story and should make for interesting viewing. Music to accompany the on screen story is expected to be of the Eddier Vedder and Neil Young genre. The soundtrack is believed to be already complete.

We bought a zoo is likely to be a very popular movie with appeal for all family members.
