What I Thank You For
For sheer, white curtains blowing on a spring day,
Bolero tumblers filled with instant iced tea,
Naps beneath a white blanket with yellow ducks.
For delicate fingers and lips in shades of pink or red,
Popcorn in a yellow Pyrex bowl and Coke on special occasions,
Wearing linen suits, high heels, and pillbox hats with netting.
For family picnics at Bernheim Forest with Grandma and Grandpa,
Homemade spaghetti sauce, and no-bake cheesecake,
Inviting my teachers for lasagna dinner with Cold Duck or Blue Nun.
For religion and morals,
Not cowering to "But everybody else gets to",
Not letting me grow up too fast.
For being classy, fun, and loving,
For not trying to be my best friend,
But for just being my mom.
Thank You.
