What Might Be Turned Into Can Be

Updated on November 2, 2011

Don't Stop Trying

So many things happen in a day that turn our thoughts in different directions

We may not notice how slight our perspective on life can be altered with one idea

Think of something you wanted so bad you could taste it

Then when you got that wonderful thing your life was changed forever

Only days later you acquired different interests and that thing that you wanted doesn't mean so much

How could we of wanted something so bad for so long and then have no need to enjoy or want

Our focus has changed and so did our thoughts

So what was so important at one time is no longer a need or desire in our life

We have fulfilled that void that remained empty for so long

Then we see something else that we want

Will the same situation happen again and again ?

Are we just filling our lives up with temporary pacifiers that will not last ?

Maybe it is not that thing that we wanted after all

It could be the feelings that we think that item will bring when we have it in our poccession

To often our feelings and emotions for that moment are short lived

They are only temporary as our moods change

What if we waited and didn't get what we wanted at that moment ?

If we waited three days to see if that was a purchase we needed to make

How bad would we feel ?

How could we live with ourselves ?

Then if the need was still there

Lets pretended we got it and carried out the senerio in our head

Say it was a new coat that you knew you wanted and couldn't afford

So instead of charging it and ringing up a bill that you would have to pay later

Most likely with interest and alot more money in the end

Even though one reason for buying the coat was that it was on sale

Lets pretend you bought it

Pull out another coat from the closet and pretend for the moment it is the two hundred down jacket that you wanted

Wow this jacket really looks great on me

I can use it when I go skiing even though I haven't gone skiing in years

It will keep me warm in the winter even though I really don't go outside much or even shovel snow

I am too busy working overtime to pay for the things that I have already bought

I can wear it in the car but it gets way too hot

I hate being hot

The pockets aren't what I thought they would be

They were made smaller and not the zipper kind like in my old jacket

The color was nice a cross between a red and a peach

So different I loved the color

I didn't realize it gets dirty so fast and you can see the littlest mark on it

Little by little this wonderful jacket that you would die for just moments ago

Is just that another jacket one of many you have had

All the memories of it will soon fade

As you take off your old jacket and hang it back up in the closet where it was

You saved a bundle and have new appreciation for the jacket that served you well

You can spend your money on something else that you might really want

Then again you could do something really boring like save your money

In time reinvest that money to make more money

So one day you might not have the jacket that you have seen and wanted so bad

Instead you will have the feelings that you were searching for

Feelings that will last so much longer and give you the freedom and satisfaction that no jacket can ever bring

One that makes you special and gives you power

That gives you the money to buy anything you want at anytime

A luxury in life that so few have

Because they spend what they see and not what they need

A hard lesson to learn but one that you can carry with you whereever you go

This reminds me of the old Peggy Lee song: "Is that all there is?" We're just never satisfied.
