What is marriage?(poem)

Updated on October 12, 2013

I’ve been wondering,
if a paper what makes us married
or if it’s the symbol of a ring?

I’ve been asking,
Mom,
Is marriage all the time
a pot of honey?
or a bed of nails?
or so-so -
Something in between?

I am only sure
of one thing,
whoever they might be

It’s an everlasting love,that never
cease burning for the other
or giving up on hope when gentle breeze turns icy cold wind.

James, sometimes I think there is more stock put into paper, than into the heart that wishes us to posses it. Thanks for the words.

Well done, in the relationship I have in my marriage I see trust in ourselves and in our marriage and the comfort that comes with the passing of time. Thank you for sharing. Jamie

      Beautiful, thought-provoking poem.

I am seeing that you have published several hubs, but I did not receive notifications or I would have been here sooner. Marriage is such an important step in one's life, and I can say in my case anyway, I was devastated when my marriage ended over 10 years ago. I still grieve.

The paper and the ring are only symbols.

      Blessings,

      Kim

Very lovely, Tijani, and so true, for marriage is not something to enter into lighty, that covenant before God, as it is to be understood it is for life until our earthly life ends ... together forever, come what may, the good, the bad and the ugly (not abuse ...). All things are possible when we place God at the center of our hearts and then all other relationships cannot help but to be blessed.

Beautiful poem and thoughts to ponder.

      Up and more and sharing

      Hugs, Faith Reaper
