What should it mean

Updated on September 26, 2010

I sold my soul to an elderly man

In a dinner last week

And today he’s at my door knocking

Asking for a refund O so politely

I slammed the door in his old face

In my house I took a seat sat there

And thought about being worth nothing

Then I had a heart attack there shortly

After that I had a heart transplant

Not nearly a year later they repossessed

The very heart that they had placed into my chest

In the end they had a lovely funeral for me

They even held a favorably memorable wake

And the old man was finally able to collect

On my damaged soul the refund was the end

We pay so high a price to die in such tiny little way, when it's so cheap to be gone in a big way...mortal fools, and we pay third parties to name stars after us when NASA doesn't even own the heavens...mortal fools.

AP, I do so enjoy your style, wonderful poem. ~ Laura
