You’ve got lips eager to please me,

hands eager to touch me,

ears eager to listen to me,

a voice eager to speak to me.

You’ve got a body yearning for mine

as mine yearns for yours,

A heart willing to beat for me

as mine’s willing to beat for you.

You miss me when I’m not with you

like I miss you when you not with me;

You want me as much as I want you;

You need me as much as I need you.

What’s love got to do with it?

Why fuss over a mere word?

Perhaps love is having a mutual target -

US.

.

Lol, Nadine! Poetry is not my forte. I only commit it while I'm emotional unstable. Serious! I keep on unpublishing my poetry! Thanks for reading. You've encouraged me to keep this one published.

Hi molometer, good to see you. Yes, I guess this is how most adults with bad memories start a relationship: "To hell with love, let's just be companions." But fortunately or unfortunately love is like a plant, shooting roots into our souls, and then it grows and grows and grows... as long as we feed it. If we don't feed it, decay sets in until even the roots rot in our souls, causing so much pain... I should convert this into a poem, don't you think.

Thank you for coming over for a read. Expect me in your corner soon :)

      Nice work Martie,

What's that saying, 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'

I commend you for putting this feeling so succinctly.

Thank you, Rahul. I like the concept of love 'happening'... After all, actions speak harder than words... Another truth comes to mind: We may forget what others have said, but we never forget how they've made us felt...

drbj, the more I think about it, the more I am sure true love (of whatever kind) is when two or more people have the same goal/target. Allowing distractions from this goal, is reducing one's power to reach it...

Thank you so much for confirming my idea as an accurate statement.

Martie, m'luv, you just may have summed up the meaning and the essence of love with your profound and very accurate statement: 'Perhaps love is having a mutual target.' Brava and well done. Loved your poetry.

My dearest Nellieanna, I'm on your page with all of it. It just crossed my mind... I am a lover; I love people. My frustration and heartache hide in the difference between my love for a person and his/her love for me. I love some people more than they love me, and I love others less than they love me. Now, at this stage, it seems to me if Barend's 'love' for me is the same as mine for him. But please read my comment to Vincent - I have an issue with 'love' per se...

As always, thank you so much for your profound, insightful comment.

Hi Gypsy, I like your comment. Companionship, passion and fire are sub-ordinates of love. We should actually pay more attention to sub-ordinates, because without them their could not be an ordinate. Thank you so much for your thought-provoking comment :)

Thanks, Vinaya, for your lovely compliment. Wow! It was not my intention to describe sensuality or passion; I simply penned a few facts and a thought that crossed my mind... Though it is good to know this poem could be seen as such - so I can include it in the anthology I plan to publish hopefully before the end of this year. Thanks again!

Vincent, yes, the end of March - 6 weeks ago - I've met a heluva smart guy. So far he is passing all tests with distinction. But we are not walking with our heads in the clouds; we focus only on today and tomorrow. Really an exciting and amazing adventure :)

Because I associate love with sacrifices, hardship, endurance, heartache and so many painful emotions, I've decided to enjoy LIFE and forget about love.

But, of course, I remind myself of an atheist - Refuse to believe in love, while love was, is and will always be whether one believe in it or not.

Thank you for your heart-warming and smile-provoking comment, my dear Vincent :)

marcoujor, definitely all of that and also mutual affection. You know every individual trigger specific emotions in us - triggers the release of certain chemicals, which we experience as emotions. The amount of each chemical released differs from person to person, causing a unique 'like' or 'dislike' for every person we meet/know. So I am currently kind of amazed and intrigued, sipping this particular potion very carefully... Call me a connoisseur of emotions...

As always, thank you so much for your friendship :)

We think we are in love when very young (indeed what Does love have to do with it?) then we mature, understand what Real and Lasting love is and are much better for learning. Some find it young and keep it. Some of us have to mature further to understand what true love is and what it requires. Great poem.

One can be quite attracted to another person - even almost 'fatally' attracted, even perhaps 'in love'. But that feeling of deep, undeniable LOVE surging almost viscerally from one's heart toward another person, - is so very very rare and beyond all those other positive feelings;at least it is rare for me. I genuinely care for many people, and am physically or mentally attracted to some. But I honestly really LOVE only a few people with that heartfelt thing in any capacity: agape, spiritual, fellow-human being or (potentially) sexually. That REAL love part may or may not be accompanied by the physical or even the mental attractions. But if and when - (seldom) - it happens to be ALL of that - WOW! That really is rare!

Perhaps Alan's observation is true because it is so rare & folks either don't know the difference, settle for less or just give up finding it - at least in one person. Perhaps most folks have been stung by some kind of 'lesser-than' choices. But if it IS found in one person - who is concurrent with oneself and mutually feels it - I guess that is the stuff of which the really great love stories are made!

So here goes my sincere thanks to all of you for coming over for the read and leave me such supportive and inspiring comments.

      b. Malin, yes - lol - 'maybe'..... Love is like time, relative... Not even King Solomon could tell us exactly what love is. (Smiling...)

arb, you've mention the reason for so many heartache, if not ALL we have to endure on this planet - when love is the target of ME or YOU instead of US.

I will be back a.s.a.p. to share my thoughts on more comments in here. In the meantime, please know I appreciate your support with all my heart.
