Come Sit By Me A While:Where are you my baby ??

Updated on October 26, 2013

Hello one and all and I wish you a wonderful weekend .I must apologise for not having been around to read your wonderful hubs etc. but my days have been family filled.

As many of you know I have 13 grandchildren and I love spending time with them. I think they have kept me young at heart!!

Today I feel so blessed to have a wonderful partner who is my best friend, my soul mate, my all family .

Also loving and caring children and their partners .

However this is not all because last but most definitely not least, all of you, my hubfamily!

I have come to treasure each one of you and those whom I have yet to meet I am sure.

Bring your teas, coffees and biscuits with you !!!

Now then are we all settled ??Right I shall begin and I hope you enjoy!!!

As many of you know we were adopted a couple of months ago by mother cat Tabatha and her baby kitten Megan.

They were found abandoned in a hedge around 30 mles away from where we live here in Wales.

Poor Tabatha had five kittens but it was only Megan who was still alive.

I cannot write here what I would like to do to the people who abandoned them.

Disgusting vile scum !!!

They were both taken in by a lady who runs a cat rescue haven not too far from here. Someone happened to give us her phone number and she was delighted when we said we were looking for two kittens or cats ;because she was desperately looking for a home where they could both stay together .Tabatha (Tabs) was around a year old and Megan ( Meg) was around eight weeks old at the time; this would be around three months ago.

Now then where do I begin to try and convey what they have given us.

They have filled a gap in our home and also think they are dogs at times when they bring us the post and when we cannot find small items such as my reading glasses etc. the first place we look is in their bed.

Tabatha loves to be cuddles but Megan will only come and sit on my lap when she wants to and will not allow us to pick her up at all. However if she never changes from how she is now we are not in the least bothered we love them both just as they are.

However in the three times they have been taken to the vet she snuggles right into my neck and as far under my hair as she can.

They have both been going to have their vaccinations ;then yesterday they were both micro chipped and little Megan was spayed.

The vet says that Megan snuggles up to me is a sign that she trusts me 100%.Awww bless her!!!

How many of you have had that strong feeling that some things were meant to be?

I certainly have and by today have learnt how to listen to my inner being.

Both cats hide whenever visitors come to the house but when we went to see them that very first time Tabatha rushed up to us purring as we cuddled her.

They are so cherished by us both and by today have filled a gap in my heart bless them ; I think the fact that they had a bad beginning in life makes my love for them go deeper too.

Oh yes I know 100% that they were meant to come into our home and to win over our hearts as they have done.

Now then yesterday as I said both cats had to be micro chipped and also little Megan had to stay behind to be spayed .As soon as we arrived home Tabatha almost howled running from room to room looking for her baby. I felt so sorry for her but eventfully she settled by me on the settee .

A few hours later we went back to bring Megan home.

Tabatha ran to her sniffing her all over but then started growling and hissing at her !!!!She continued to be like this all through the evening .I was a little apprehensive about them both spending the night together but as Dai said we'd be causing more problems if we separated them both for the whole night too.

I didn't sleep soundly but heard no noise from the kitchen at all.

When I got up at 6 am they both seemed happy but had obviously slept in different spaces. Megan in their bed and Tabatha on one of our kitchen seats.

Again they are always fed from the same dish but again Tabatha would not allow Megan near the dish;so I gave them spereate dishes and they both ate happily. However in the last couple of hours Tabatha does seem to be allowing her baby a little nearer to her as you can see from the photo below.

Dai thinks that she is annoyed because Megan wasn't here when she was looking for her yesterday or maybe because there was a different smell from Megan when she returned yesterday evening.

I would love to hear if any of you have had the same experience with your cats.

Well when I began this hub earlier I wasn't sure whether I was going to compose a poem or not but as my fingers found their way over the keyboard it has worked out as a chat with you all my wonderful friends.

Now then next week is half term holidays for our school children so no work for me and Dai has decided to take the week off so we can spend some more time together and so we will be busy exploring with cameras and notebook/pen in tow.

Therefore my time with you all on here will be limited but I am sure I will be laden down with photos and writing material for the following week.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and I send lots of love from our little corner of Wales from Dai, Eddy, Tabatha and Megan.

I do love cats, even though I don't have one at the moment. I have had several over the years and each one was special. Thanks for reminding me of how much they can touch a life. Lovely photos! Blessings.

Ah, Eddy, I am a little late to the party....

As blessed as you and Dai feel about your little girls, know that they feel the same. How lucky all of you are to have found each other! I know that how lives have been incredibly enriched with our 4 and I don't kid myself that their lives aren't immeasurably better than the abandoned babies they were!

      Enjoy the holidays!

Dear Eddy, I am in awe of your beautiful collages of those endearing kitties that have adopted you. How very lucky you are!

Now then, I know that what bravewarrior said is true, because the same thing happened to a friend of mine when her cats were spayed at different times. Each rejected the other, but the vet had warned my friend this might happen. Rest assured when the smell evaporates, so will the anxiety.

Have a happy day, my friend ;) Pearl

These are beautiful cats and I'm so glad they have a good home with you. It's difficult to understand how some people can take the responsibility of pet ownership and then just abandon animals. Voted up!

You love your cats so much, it is really so good to know. I'm not that fond of cats but love kittens anytime. You know what, I'm saying this at the cost of sounding sour, but a large part of this world has been very unkind to animals. I wrote an article about it that has been written mostly from personal experiences. In many countries like ours, kindness to animals is not properly taught from childhood, only giving rise to another generation of animal abusers. I wish we had more examples of kind-hearted people like you in our area from whom others can learn a lot and follow. Thanks for sharing your story.

I'm very much of a cat person, and Sha is right. When they go to the vet or are boarded, they acquire strange smells from "away," including betadine from surgery or other medical treatment and the scent from other humans who have handled them, and even other bedding. They will readjust before you know it. It's lovely you got her microchipped (in addition to that all-important spay)! I enjoyed reading your hub.

I left to find the quote I wanted and forgot to return. Dizzy me.

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawake."

      ~Anatole France~

I am a dog person at heart. Turns out I am highly allergic to cat dander.

But, I do love most animals. I think horses are majestic. A left over from

      "Gulliver's Travels".

Some animals, that I come in contact with, give me an instant rapport.

I had gone horseback riding with my uncle and family. I was riding my aunt's horse. We came up to a small gully and all the other horses jumped. My aunt's horse stopped and I almost took a fall over the horse's head. My uncle was most apologetic as he informed me that the horse I was riding would not jump. I got off the horse and we had a nice little private chat. I told her I knew what it was like to feel afraid but I really felt that she could do this. After a few minutes, I thought she was ready.

I mounted her and took her back 30 feet or so and we ran and she sailed over that gully like it was nothing. I was so proud of her. My uncle said he would not have believed it had he not seen it. No, we did not keep in touch as they lived in a different country than I, at the time. This happened 30 years ago. It is a fond memory.

Loved the visit with you today. I love the supple elegance of cats, but living here in Australia they are so devastating on the native birds and other small creatures, I'll stick with my little dog, goldfish and worm-farm! Looking forward to seeing the results of your photography skills on your week off. Enjoy the time with your grandchildren.

Aw, Eddy, you have such a beautiful heart. My mother is cut from the very same cloth. God gifted you with 13 lovely grandchildren and a loving complement of animals...and now, these two gorgeous felines. Wow! I have never seen gray tabbies with these exotic streaks of ginger. Even the patterns of their fur (or hair) may indicate a blend of domestic and feral strains. In any even, they're absolutely adorable, and I truly believe you and your family were meant to be the eventual hosts and human relatives to these wonderful cats. Thank you so much for sharing, and I am also very grateful for the friendly chat presentation. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend, and--as always--blessings and aloha from SE Washington state!

Hi Laurie thanks for stopping by and I know the cruelty around the world is sickening !!There are some awful photos of terrible abuse to all animals and I'm afraid I cannot look if they are too bad. Glad you enjoyed this one my friend and as one animal to another here's wishing you a great weekend.

      Beautiful cats and pictures

You know I hear stories all the time about abused animals. There was one horse the other day (heard on news) found wondering for what they think weeks and had a chain tied to her.

she was found by someone in Ontario and brought to a farm and is now doing fine.

So its nice to hear that there are still good people in the world

      Great story

I love the way you write, Eddy! And I love cat stories :-) I am a cat person since the day I was born!

As BraveWarrior said, Tabatha rejected Megan because of the vet smell. Each time I go with one of my cats to the vet, the other one hiss and growl when we come back; I think it reminds them of a smell they apprehend. Poor Megan must have wondered why her mummy was hissing her when she needed comfort. When she will have licked herself all over, Tabatha should recognize her. I hope they will cuddle together soon!

      Have a great weekend!

Eddy, the reason Tabs shunned Meg is because of the lingering hospital smell on Meg. The anesthesia and alcohol is what Tabs was turned off by plus the scent of other animals that Meg picked up while there. They should be fine in a day or two.
