The Other Writing Websites

Updated on August 8, 2014

I Got Sick of the Other Freelance Writing Websites

I got really sick, really fast.

Some of them claim to have a great payback, or a great percentage or whatever. I don't understand much about the payment business anyway. I decided to try these other websites because of these claims.

But, so far, none of them has really been okay at all.

Inside the Hard Disk? There's A Connection with the Topic of this Hub

What is this? Is it the inside of a hard disk?
What is this? Is it the inside of a hard disk?

Only the Beginning. Not just a song by Chicago.

I can't get links to work in articles that I write. In one website, I wrote about fifteen articles. On the first day of the article, I'd get three or four reads. After that --- for several months --- not a single read. So, these articles are just sitting there, doing nothing.

Well, okay, that could or might be MY fault, because I really didn't do much to publicize the articles. But, nevertheless . . . I mean, I did tag these articles with keywords at least.

As if That Weren't Bad Enough . . .

The worst thing of all, though, was that one of the websites --- which seems to have all kinds of tech problems --- refused to even publish the articles I wrote. First, they claimed there were too many "misspelled words".

Do you see any misspelled words around here?

There was a French word in the article, and there were also some local brand names, and some city names. I guess they count those as "misspelled".

So, I tried to fix up the problems with these allegedly "misspelled words". I removed the city names, and the French word and the local brand names.

I tried to include links in my articles, but they just didn't work, and I couldn't get them to work. I tried so many times. Each time, the thing would just go haywire, and I'd end up with some partial link that didn't work at all. I always test my links.

But, then, they still didn't publish it because it wasn't good enough "quality" for them.

No Help Available

Okay, if they're going to discuss "quality," then let me see what the heck kind of standard they are using, to define it.

Otherwise, "quality" could mean anything.

I tried to look on the forums and things where you're supposed to go for help, but there were other problems there, too. First, before you can comment or post, you have to join some OTHER website --- even though you're already a member on the original, writing site.

Then, the forum staff give the nastiest answers to the members who ask questions.

So, I figured, I can't deal with these folks. Just let me delete my articles, and close my account.

Working Without Pay

Ahh --- but there's the real kicker.

They won't let me delete my articles, and there's no way to close my account. So, they have the articles sitting there. They have access to them, and they could be using my articles.

After these horrible experiences, I decided these other writing websites are not for me.

So, I think I'll just stick with Hubpages. Everything works well, and I've never had the kinds of problems as I've had on these other sites. Plus, the people are nice.

{No, they didn't pay me extra to say that.}

Mary, I have to agree completely. I might try a few others, just to add to this Hub, but . . I'm kind of turned off to all the others.

HP works fine. Everything makes sense here. I just feel it's barely worth trying the others, to tell the truth.

Except to maybe expand this Hub --- which I have not done yet, LOL

Thanks for your comment, mary, and for reading my Hub.

I am always amused at writers who flock to other writing sites as soon as they hear of a new one, and some of their friends join. They are told what a wonderful site it is, and how much money they will make! Usually, those same people come back to HP.

I began writing on Bubblews, and was having a great time, and for a while everyone was being paid. Then the bottom fell out, and they have almost quit paying altogether.

I came back to HP, and I think I'll stick around cause I like it here.

Thanks for your comment, Au fait, and for stopping by to read my hub.

If you look at the first comment, you will see that sweetie1 asks if that other site is Triond. I think that is the name of it. I said that in my reply post to sweetie1.

There were also a few other.

I'm sorry, but I don't remember which other ones I tried out. It was only for a very brief time, because I quickly became frustrated and quit.

I believe one was Squidoo, also, but as you know, they have become part of Hubpages. I should probably do a little updating. I just quit all other sites when I came to Hubpages.

Yes, they do have cool tools, and many features that I like.

I never do understand why my score goes where it does. Maybe you're right. Hp just does it randomly?? LOL

That would be kind of weird, but I guess they like to keep us on our toes, right? I never thought of that.

I am like you. I don't have a lot of time, either. I keep hoping to write more, but --- there's Life.

      What did Emily Dickinson say?

"Life is so startling, one scarcely has time for anything else."

Although she certainly found some time, didn't she?

Thanks again, Au fait. Take care, and keep writing.

I haven't really had time to look at many other sites. I write for one other site, but only post a new article every blue moon or so because of time constraints.

You should mention the names of these sites where you have had trouble. I usually like to see what people with experience on different websites have to say about those sites before getting involved with them myself.

HubPages does have a lot of cool writing tools, but they also do love to play headgames, raising and lowering hubber and hub scores seemingly on a whim.

Thanks, Hari. I have looked at the website. I have to admit, I don't really understand what it's about. It seems like there's a lot of information about Windows and Facebook. I don't use Windows, and rarely do get a chance to look at Facebook.

      Thanks for the comment.

Sweetie1: ~~~ You are so right. I didn't know if we were allowed to say the name on a hub, but yes, it is Triond. They weren't nice at all. Yes, I agree with everything you say here about Hubpages. I haven't made any money yet, either, but I still like to write, and to read others' hubs.

It's fun and the folks are nice, and I agree about the ease of publication.

Thanks for that. I'll be looking forward to reading some more of your hubs.

Nighthag: ~~ yes, I agree. I like that, as well. The writers are fans. Well said. I love your art, and your username. Very cool.

Thanks again. Glad you liked this hub. I was hoping there were others out there who felt the same way. Take care.

when the writers themselves are fan of the site they write for, I think that says a lot about the quality of site, the interaction and the staff... all of which are fantastic here at hubpages,

good read which makes me feel even more that I made the right decision choosing this site over all the others, thanks

      Hi huntgodess,

I think the website you are trying to tell is Triond, i had so many bad experience with them, they did publish 5 of mine but after that it was always spell mistake and things like that so i moved to Hubpages and i must say i find hubpages real real cool. Best not because they give me great traffic, which i wont say they do but simply because of ease of publication and let you earn in 3 ways by adsense, ebay/amazon and kontera. Though i have yet to earn to show off but still there is a chance.
